What Really Makes You Ill? Why Everything You Thought You Knew About Disease Is Wrong is a massive book that I just finished…

…and briefly alluded to in my post Why I’m Not Afraid Of The Coronavirus (& A New, Controversial View On Viruses In General.

This highly controversial book will explain what really makes you ill and why everything you thought you knew about disease is wrong, based on Voltaire's quote that: “Doctors are men who prescribe medicines of which they know little, to cure diseases of which they know less, in human beings of whom they know nothing.” The book reminds me of my recent interview Why Viruses Are Crucial To Life On This Planet, The Link Between Air Pollution, Glyphosate & Pandemics, Loss Of Biodiversity (& What We Can Do About It) & More With Dr. Zach Bush.

The authors argue that the conventional approach adopted by most healthcare systems entails the use of “medicine” to treat human disease. The idea, encapsulated by the above quote attributed to Voltaire, the nom de plume of François-Marie Arouet (1694-1778), will no doubt be regarded by most people as inapplicable to 21st-century healthcare, especially the system known as modern medicine. The reason that people would consider this idea to no longer be relevant is likely to be based on the assumption that “medical science” has made significant advances since the 18th century and that 21st-century doctors, therefore, possess a thorough—if not quite complete—knowledge of medicines, diseases, and the human body. Unfortunately, however, this would be a mistaken assumption—as this book will demonstrate.

Dawn Lester and David Parker are my guests on today's show, and they are the authors of What Really Makes You Ill?. They have backgrounds in the fields of accountancy and electrical engineering, respectively. These fields both require an aptitude for logic, which proved extremely useful for their investigation that has involved more than ten years of continuous research to find answers to the question: What really makes people ill?.

A popular saying, which is often attributed to Albert Einstein, claims that problems cannot be solved by using the same way of thinking that created them. The concept underlying this saying can be extrapolated to indicate that a problem can often be better understood by people outside of the discipline in which it occurs because they are not bound by any dogma or biases inherent within that discipline. The authors’ investigation of why people become ill was conducted from a different perspective from that of the medical establishment; it was, therefore, free from the dogma and biases inherent within medical science. This unbiased and logical approach enabled them to follow the evidence with open minds and led them to discover the flaws within the information about illness and disease that is promulgated by the medical establishment.

The results of their investigation are revealed within their book, and we explore those results on today's show.

-Why an accountant and engineer decided to write a book about health and disease…7:03

  • Book required over 10 years of research
  • Friends and family members were diagnosed with cancer; took conventional treatments with no success
  • Reported success numbers (50%) did not correlate with David's experience (100% mortality rate)
  • Another family member with cancer refused medical treatment and it went away in 1.5 years
  • Book: Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton
  • Placebo effect, change outlook on life plays a role in “spontaneous remission”
  • The Nature of Reality – their first book together
  • Led to a study on viruses, the impact of belief on one's health, etc.
  • The conventional wisdom was not rooted in science

-Why David and Dawn's non-medical backgrounds were an asset to their research…14:15

  • AIDS was the first disease they studied
  • Lifestyle factors – drugs and antibiotics – cause AIDS
  • Many doctors will not speak out on this for fear of losing their job, reputation, etc.
  • No peer-reviewed articles which identify any type of virus as the cause of AIDS
  • Kary Mullis, Nobel Prize awardee, inventor of the PCR method, also looked for those papers
  • Research without bias, nor upsetting the hierarchy of their respective fields
  • Doctors are not allowed to ask the questions David and Dawn can

-Why AIDS is rampant in Africa without drugs and antibiotics that cause it…21:10

  • AIDS cases are high in Africa because more cases reported = more funding from the WHO
  • Incentive to misreport, or misattribute other diseases as AIDS
  • Pregnancy can produce a positive test (false positives) due to proteins found in the body
  • BGF podcast with Dr. Zach Bush

-What we can learn from the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic today…35:30

  • Large discrepancy in the number of reported deaths (official figures range from 10 million to a hundred million)
  • Young healthy men in the army became ill, even died, after receiving a flu vaccine
  • Brain hemorrhages, internal hemorrhaging, abnormal flu symptoms
  • Book: The Invisible Rainbow by Arthur Firstenberg
  • Most severe cases correlated with high-powered telecommunication equipment
  • Climate changes in India caused massive drought; incorrectly attributed to the Spanish flu
  • Book: Pandora's Poison by Joe Thornton
    • Chlorine gas used as a chemical weapon
    • Nitroglycerin, which was manufactured in large quantities and used extensively for gunpowder
  • No evidence suggests a virus caused the pandemic
  • The trauma of ongoing war would have been a factor in public health
  • Aspirin used at much higher doses than today

-The dangers of chlorine…46:00

  • Chlorine is always found in compounds, where it's stable
  • Chlorine gas is highly reactive, combines quickly with organic matter
  • The danger is in the chlorine, not the germs they kill
  • Reverse osmosis water filter
  • BGF podcast with Dr. David Getoff on chlorine in water
  • Treat water with ozone and UV

-Giant rocks in space related to shifts in world health…49:30

  • Great Plague (black death) purportedly due to infected rat fleas infecting humans
  • Other life that could not be affected by fleas were dying in massive numbers (fish in large numbers were floating dead in rivers and waterways)
  • Many environmental events (volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, even a comet) reported by eyewitnesses of the time created toxic atmosphere
  • Book: New Light on the Black Death by Dr. Mike Baillie
    • Studied trees alive during that period; tree rings confirmed the presence of high levels of toxic chemicals like ammonia
    • Did a correlation of tree rings and ice core samples and found the same

Hi Ben! Wow, what an absolutely incredible podcast. It ties together so many of the things that you have been talking about and I have been learning over the past few years. Ironically, I am an Electrical Engineer was able to relate to some of the things that David said.

I am 100% interested in helping David and Dawn complete an audio recording for this book.
Can you connect me with them?

    Thanks for all you do!

  3. Burn Loot Murder says:

    Why would you mentioned BLM????????

Another site/org/person we need to boycot. If they had their way you would be dead Ben and your family. They hate your family.

By supporting BLM you support the destruction of America but you won’t stand up for this?????

    1. Lester says:

      BRAVO!

  4. Joseph Brazfield says:

Ben, Dawn, or whom it may concern,

I am a fan of Doctor Thomas Cowan and his books. I first learned of him through reading Ben’s book, Boundless. The first book of his that I read was titled, Vaccines, Autoimmunity, and the Changing Nature of Childhood Illness. In that book, Doctor Cowan makes a sound argument against vaccination. I could cite many pages in which he uses “virus theory” To prove his point. That book only makes sense if virus theory is true.

Now, Thomas Cowan has released a new book similar to this book. The new book is called, “Contagion Myth”. I’ve read the book twice and it seems to contradict his formerly mentioned title. His previous books used virus theory to prove a point, and this new book does everything it can to convince the reader that virus theory is wrong.

As I said, I am a fan of Thomas Cowan. I don’t have any ill-intentions. I simply do not know what to believe. I enjoy the books, but they’re seemingly being contradicted by each other. I’ve emailed Thomas Cowan directly, but have gotten no response. Ben, can you help me understand this topic? Dawn?

    1. Jennifer Lee says:

Hi Joseph!! I feel exactly the same way! So much conflicting information, and it’s all so interesting and “believable”.
I have asked similar questions like those you have sent to Ben and Dr. Cowan, and no one answers.
As soon as I jump onboard the terrain theory, something will happen to confuse me. For example, how does terrain explain that my son gets a “cold”, and 3 days later his sister gets a “cold” with the same symptoms? Or, how a group of college students go to a bar together and one learns he is C19 positive, and then after a few days the other 5 kids test positive (after first testing negative…so it wasn’t already “in” them). Those situations don’t seem to “jive” with the Poor nutrition, Toxin, EMF, Stress situations (sure, drinking at a bar involves some “toxins”, but I don’t think that is “the answer”. )

I appreciate everyone’s passion in the comments to stand up for what they feel for the BLM mention…but can we get back to the topic of this particular podcast and hopefully discuss some answers?
David and Dawn, can you help? If you could “explain” how those 2 scenarios I listed above work within your research, I would really appreciate it! My head is spinning trying to understand this. Thanks so much to anyone who can help us understand :-)

      1. Joseph Brazfield says:

        Hey Jennifer,

Dr. Cowan actually does address the answer to your questions in his new book, “Contagion Myth”. He states that situations similar to yours are epidemiological observations, which do not prove causation. When your son gets a cold and then your daughter gets a cold, the hypothesis would be that there’s a cold virus being passed between them. But that’s a hypothesis that needs to be tested, and he claims that they haven’t been. He goes on to point out that we do have ways of proving contagion – Koch’s postulates for bacteria, and Rivers postulates for viruses. Neither have been done successfully for things like HIV, Polio, or COVID-19.

Dr. Cowan States that before we point towards a ‘wily virus’ as the cause for the illness, we should be 100% sure that your kids aren’t being poisoned by a toxin, stress, or EMFs (as an example). He references when sailors were sick and a contagious virus was blamed until one of the sailors ate a lime. Their illness turned out to be scurvy, which is caused by a citrus fruit deficiency.

I believe any rational person would agree with Cowan’s suggestion to ‘weed out’ other possibilities before we say it’s a virus that we can’t even locate, isolate, and purify.

For things like STDs, he claims these things are passed between people through resonance between the atoms. (A stretch of the imagination, if you ask me… But I’m keeping an open mind until I find more information)

I hope that helped you understand the position.

Now…. if anyone can help me understand why Thomas Cowan contradicts himself between the two books, that would be grrrreeeeeaaaattttt lol

        1. Jennifer Lee says:

Thanks for the response, Joseph!! It’s always nice to hear things explained a different way…really helps things to “click”.
Indeed, it would great to hear why Cowan contradicts himself. I would love to know as well.
          Have a great week!! :-)

          1. Joseph Brazfield says:

I just left a Q&A with Andrew Wakefield, the doctor that first found a link between autism and the MMR vaccine. I referenced Dr. Cowan’s new book and asked him if he believed viruses cause illness.

His answer was that both are true. Viruses can cause illness and also the terrain is important.

So take that for what it’s worth…. I would love to get Ben’s take on this. I’d also like to get Thomas Cowan back on his podcast to clear this up for all of us. How this new contagion myth ties into his views on vaccination is of interest to me.

Ben! Get Dr. Cowan on the show again! Please! We need clarification!

        2. Dawn Lester says:

I would suggest that Dr Cowan has continued learning and changed his view about viruses. He even mentions this in one of his recent interviews, sorry but I can’t remember which one.
So, he isn’t contradicting himself, he is merely expressing his most recent findings in his latest book.

          1. Joseph Brazfield says:

            Dawn,

Thank you for your response. If Dr. Cowan has changed his view of viruses, this leads me to wonder what this new position does to his view of vaccination.

Coincidentally, I am attending a movie screening and a Q&A with Dr. Andrew Wakefield, the man who first discovered a link between the MMR vaccine and autism. I look forward to asking him this very question.

Many from the Weston A. Price foundation will be in attendance. As you may know, this foundation is spotlighting Dr. Cowan’s newest book, Contagion Myth. So if we are to believe viruses don’t cause illness, I’d be interested in hearing the affect on the vaccine debate. I’ll report back!

          2. Scott says:

I just listened to Zach Bush on Luke Storey’s podcast from mid Sept. I felt it was the most in depth explanation of Zach’s theory on the terrain and viruses that I’ve heard so far. My Contaigion Myth is on it’s way, looking forward to that. I’d be VERY curious to hear a conversation between Dr. Tom Cowan and Dr. Zach Bush! Maybe Ben can facilitate that…;)

        3. Random says:

Without looking at the dates between the books I’d say it’s the common scenario of one learning more and changing their views, which should happen with new information. As knowledge grows you find that previous beliefs or theories fall to the wayside, just my guess.

      2. Dawn Lester says:

We discuss the common cold in this article, which you may find of interest.
        https://whatreallymakesyouill.com/why-modern-medicine-cannot-cure-the-common-cold/

It is possible that in the scenario you describe, the placebo/nocebo effect has played a role. We discuss the impact of this effect with respect to STDs in this article
        https://whatreallymakesyouill.com/theres-no-such-thing-as-a-sexually-transmitted-disease-2-2/

        I trust this helps Jennifer.

  5. Will says:

I read on a forum you are promoting BLM and it said it was on this podcast. I listened and I don’t agree you are promoting BLM but you are mentioning it in good favor. People are talking about you and NOT in a good way.

Ben, I hope you read this. You are making a huge mistake mentioning BLM. Recent polls showed more than 60% of Americans now don’t support BLM. If you want the mainstream news they call it “peaceful protesters” but if you watch what’s really going on it’s definitely NOT peaceful. So many people’s lives are ruined because of this violent organization.

I truly hope I read someday that you removed your mentioning of BLM so I can come back here. Your mentioning of BLM in the manner you did is against American values. They want to burn America to the ground.

Please remove that. Please. If you knew what they stand for you would understand what I mean.

    1. Mike says:

Well said, BLM is not a selling point. I am canceling my Thrive membership.

    2. Erin Glen says:

You know, I am SO refreshed to know that Ben’s listeners and I are on the same line of thinking. I’m an avid follower of Ben and when I was listening to this podcast on my walk this morning and heard the BLM plug, I was floored. WTF? I couldn’t believe 1) that Ben would support them and 2) that even if he did that he would put a plug in on his podcast (even though it was for Thrive).

I was actually on the fence about a Thrive membership. Well that sealed it. Never gonna get Thrive. Sorry, don’t care how sustainable and healthy and what a cool idea they have.

    3. David says:

Please stop mentioning an organization that’s bringing chaos to our society and destroying lives.

Thomas Sowell has an intelligent take on the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap8FfZTgECY&t=20s

  6. Freedom NOT BLM says:

Ben, you should edit that part out about BLM. Not only are you going to lose listeners like me but you will forever be labeled someone who supports a terrorist organization that one of their goals is to destroy the common family. They used to state this on their website.
So bummed you did this :( Publish controversial info that people don’t agree with all you want but supporting a terrorist organization that has had MANY murders, assaults, arson, etc in their name is downright disgusting!

You have lost me and everyone I know that knows who you are. I will be letting them know ASAP!

  7. Brian says:

Extremely disappointed that you would support BLM. On their website they stated they want to dismantle the nuclear family. Definition of nuclear family = “a couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social unit”

They want single parent or kids raised from the state. This has destroyed the black children who’s parent are incentivized by monthly payments to the mother if she is single.

Their own leaders threaten violence and are the definition of a terrorist organization. I would think you would be smarter than that.

You should put a disclaimer on your website that you support BLM and the products you push are funding terrorist activities so a MAJORITY of your listeners can leave and never come back just like me.

I will be posting on my websites and social media to stay far away from you and this site.

    What a disappointment :(

I was listening to a podcast with Niraj I believe. The billionaire who praised your family. Your family type is what they set out to destroy. You are smart yet you have made a huge error and it is going to negatively effect you.

    1. Catherine says:

I think all you do by this comment is distance yourself from people rather than Ben. I’ll keep listening – and I am sure, based on the quality of Ben’s content – others will also.
He is allowed his own views and opinions.
He advocates on health – not politics.
Do you scrutinise everyone’s personal opinions behind the podcasts and establishments you frequent?
Or would you like to live in a world where everyone thinks and believes just like you, so you don’t have to have your own self justified opinions challenged?
After all, that’s how we evolve – not by boycotts – but by debate, listening, and being able to accept that we are not all walking the same path. We are seeing things are we are – not as they are. We can disagree and still co-exist.
I fully support Ben – not because I agree with all his opinions – but because he is genuine to who he is as a soul.
He aims to educate, not dictate.
      Good on you Ben.

      1. America says:

You do realize that by him and others promoting BLM it is hurting our nation? This is a serious topic here. Thousands and thousands of people’s lives have been hurt or destroyed by this terrorist organization. You would care if Ben promoted pedophilia right? Is that still just his opinion???
I guess you have been watching the liberal media and have been manipulated to believe falsehoods about what is really going on with BLM. BLM/Antifa are a SOROS operation to divide our nation so they can take it over with communism. This is a fact. If you support the takeover and destruction of our nation I not only DO NOT SUPPORT YOU but you are THE ENEMY.

        Get it???

        1. Catherine says:

Without getting into a crazy political debate “America” – BLM was mentioned in relation to Thrive. Boycott Thrive if you want. Boycott Ben, and you’re shooting yourself in the foot.
Ben is undoubtedly one of the best resources on health we have. He shares a butt load of information free. I’m eternally grateful to him for benefits he has had on my health – I’ll continue to listen and support him.

        2. Lester says:

          BRAVO!

        3. Lester says:

BRAVO ‘America’ – yes, we need to criticize and boycott BLM everywhere we see it!!

    2. Donald Dump says:

      A) You orange snowflakes can trigger fest all you want and whine about DELETING and CANCELING Thrive and Greenberg all you want and it is not going to affect their bottom line one bit.
      B) Greenberg does not support BLM at all, he is all about the money. If you want to get some hints leading to who he really is you can visit his twitter where he banters with and dog whistles to Trumpers like you daily, post links to articles by religious zealots, etc…

Sink back into the covid embrace your obese corrupt reality television moron, sexual predator, fraud, pornstar affair having, tax cheat, Russian traitor of a President.

btw, I loved the latest photos of him ‘working’ from the hospital – which apparently is scrawling your name on a blank piece of paper with a sharpie. Classic orange moron, not the first time we’ve seen photos like this.

      1. America NOT Communism says:

        See the news lately?
People involved in the Russia hoax are going down and TDS sufferers like yourself are going to melt.

  8. Brian says:

    BLM??????
    WTF BEN!!!

  9. A MESSAGE FROM THE AUTHORS OF WHAT REALLY MAKES YOU ILL? WHY EVERYTHING YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW ABOUT DISEASE IS WRONG

People may be aware that several so-called ‘scientific’ papers’ are circulating around the internet that are claimed to prove that viruses, especially the Corona virus, do cause disease. These papers are often cited by lazy and ill-informed people who have not bothered to do any thorough and unbiased research of their own or to have even read these papers properly.

One such paper was published in ‘Nature’, the prestigious establishment journal. In the abstract of this paper it is claimed that the virus has been ‘isolated’; that it fully meets Koch’s postulates and that it has been proven to cause the disease attributed to it. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

When papers such as the one in Nature are properly examined, and in particular the methodology employed by the study authors and their claims in the paper’s ‘Abstract’, it can be seen that the virus has not actually been isolated, that Koch’s postulates have not all been met and that the virus particle under investigation has not been proven to be the cause of the disease attributed to it. In many cases, the authors of these so-called scientific papers actually admit their experiments have not met the relavant criteria. In other words, the actual results of their study experiments disprove the claims they make in the paper’s abstract.

This is no less than a disgraceful attempt by the scientific establishment to deceive the unwary and casual reader into believing the myth of the germ theory, and in particular to believing that viruses have been proven to cause disease, which they certainly have not.

Do not be deceived by these outrageous attempts at deception by the establishment. Nothing less than your health and freedom is at stake.

    1. Joseph Brazfield says:

My understanding is that Koch’s postulates are for bacteria & River’s postulates are for viruses.

    2. James Meza says:

Hello I am wondering if you found some to read your book for an audiobook. I would be interested in doing this.

      1. Dawn Lester says:

        Hi James,

        Thank you,

  10. Damian says:

Thank you very much for this thought provoking and informative podcast. I have read several exerts from the book already, and I look forward to reading through the rest of it upon purchasing.
Thank you Dawn and David for committing so much time to collecting this information for our consideration and for sticking your neck out. Thank you Ben for hosting.
This is the first of your podcasts I have heard, and I look forward to exploring more of your content also.

  11. Paul says:

Some interesting points were made. I was disappointed Ben didn’t push back more on the topic of a vegan diet being the most beneficial for health?

  12. Matt says:

Their arguments seem specious at best.
    Consider the counter arguments: https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/no-everything-you-thought-you-knew-about-disease-is-not-wrong/

  13. Mike says:

    Butter pseudoscientific nonsense.

Uncredentialed authors, basic denial of germ theory… Pandering to the conspiracy theorist market no doubt.

Their arguments systemically and thoroughly debunked here…

    https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/no-everything-you-thought-you-knew-about-disease-is-not-wrong/

Ben, you really should be more selective about having quacks on your show…

  14. john says:

thanks for informing me that thrive market donates to black lives matter. i will be cancelling my subscription tomorrow.

  15. Varun Sharma says:

Thank you so much for sharing this.

  16. Just another listener says:

Once again, just a reminder to folks consuming this content without doing the research – Dr. Joseph Mercola, cited in this podcast, is a fraud, and he shares a lot of nonsensical and anti-scientific ideas. A quick Google search will tell you what you need to know.

    1. Sirus says:

So what caused that food poisoning I got several years back?

    2. Truther says:

      Google . Hahahahahahahahahahaha

    3. suzanne says:

Wow! You better do some more research on Dr. Mercola (and please don’t use biased, selective Google)! Most of his daily articles include interviews with respected scientists, authors, physicians, etc. and even Ben Greenfield himself!

    4. EJB says:

You idiot. A Google search. Really?!

    5. Nic says:

Sciencism doesn’t have all the answers. Dr. Mercola is a fraud…”Google search”. Ahh, I’m worried for you.

  17. Chris Heron says:

This is just shameful. I was a big fan and have listened to pretty much every podcast for the last 3 years. The fact that you’re giving voice to this nonsense has made me lose all respect for you, Ben. I’ve been HIV positive for 15 years. They test my viral load every 6 months. If it was not for HAART therapy, I would have been dead 14 years ago. There are thousands of studies proving it’s a virus. To suggest otherwise, is not just irresponsible, but dangerous. Shame on you, Ben!

    1. Dominika says:

Feel it totaly the same way:-( So many such an interesting podcasts and now this nonsense?
What a shame:-( What this has to do with true biohacking???

  18. Concerned says:

Great podcast and always appreciate the new info coming through the podcast and articles. I do want to ask you to consider your sponsors, specifically, Thrive Market. I was actually considering signing up for Thrive UNTIL I HEARD YOUR AD! You state that signing up for Thrive, they will donate to the organization, BLM!!!! Ben, you do realize that this organization is AGAINST THE NUCLEAR FAMILY, they are MARXIST TRAINED & AFFILIATED! They are HUGE transgender supporters. As a Christian, we have to be so careful to look beyond these organizations, and what they stand for. HOW CAN YOU BE SO NAIVE when you are so informed? Black lives do matter and so do red, yellow, brown, & white. Ironically, they just took down, in the last few days, that “one of their primary goals is to dismantle the nuclear family.” I understand they removed this because the democratic candidates’ numbers are going down b/c they are associated. Please please please educate yourself on this!

I am all for companies sponsoring what ever they deem appropriate. That said I will now be canceling my Thrive membership due to their monetary (which now includes MY monetary support) to an organization I do not support. I can not believe Thrive supports a group that blatantly and repeatedly breaks the law. BLM own information page speaks against the nuclear family. I support racial equality, and other reputable organizations that have lead the way for decades such as the YMCA. Thanks for the heads up.

      1. Really says:

Funny, all you people who cry about BLM, yet you support the most corrupt president in history. Funny your name is Karen.

      2. COMMON SENSE says:

Not supporting BLM because of the few who riot (as a hopeless means of progress in a broken system) is the same as not supporting any person/group due to one thing you don’t like about them. No sensible person condones violence but cherry picking wrongs is hypocritical. BREAKING NEWS: No 2 people agree on everything. You’re going to disagree with Thrive or Ben on something. Cancel your membership if you’re that offended But caring about disenfranchised groups of people is more important than whether you are ok with the LGBT community or not.. Start your own Black Lives charity if you’re that offended by BLM but really care about BLACK lives…

    2. Also Concerned says:

I agree. Thrive Market just became a “No Go” zone for me. Any company that supports a terrorist organization like BLM, financially or otherwise, will never get a dime of my money. SMH

It’s funny how easy it is to spot someone who only watches Fox news and has no black friends lol..GET OUT YOUR BUBBLE

I have access to a home recording studio. I used it to record my own audiobook available on Amazon. I would be willing to read this book into a microphone for you.
