Ben Greenfield's Java Judgement Week 1: “SuperCoffee”

One bottle of this stuff is about 40 bucks, but makes 50-70 cups of rich, tasty joe, depending on how strong you mix it. Here's a description of SuperCoffee, which comes with both caffeinated and de-caffeinated options.

SuperCoffee is a full-bodied, great tasting coffee concentrate that also packs the mighty antioxidant power of black tea. In addition to its rich, tantalizing taste, SuperCoffee serves up more antioxidants than any other brand of coffee. And it comes caffeine-free or fully caffeinated. Both versions share the same scrumptious taste. And if you really love your morning coffee but can’t be bothered with messy bean grinders or coffee-pot cleanup, you’ll want to raise your mug and toast SuperCoffee.

Why? Because you can now trash all your pricey coffee gadgets and stop dropping $3 or more a day for your favorite gourmet coffee shop java blend. Instead, simply add 25 to 30 drops of super-concentrated Super Coffee to hot water. In seconds, you’re experiencing the same incredible sensory-pleasing flavor, aroma and pick-me-up that you currently get from your favorite brand of gourmet coffee. And you’re spending a mere 50 cents per cup on average!

Super Coffee is packaged in small glass bottles that, when unopened, preserve product freshness for up to a full year. Each bottle makes approximately 60 to 72 cups of coffee. Studies show that the bitterness typically associated with regular canned coffees is largely the result of oxidation, a process that begins soon after the beans are ground, all of which is avoided with SuperCoffee.

Ben Greenfield's Java Judgement Week 2: “Teeccino”

Teeccino is actually made from a combination of herbs, spices and other natural ingredients, and contain any caffeine or coffee extracts. Here's a really good explanation of healthy coffee alternatives and why you may want to consider ditching coffee completely. Here's the low-down on Teeccino, which comes in both a brewable Tee-Bag, and a ground bag (both versions taste just like coffee).

Teeccino, a Caffeine-free Herbal Coffee, is a delicious blend of herbs, grains, fruits and nuts that are roasted and ground to brew and taste just like coffee. Coffee lovers are attracted to Teeccino’s full-bodied, dark roasted flavor and its nutritious health benefits.

Those who can no longer drink coffee may experience caffeine withdrawal, and weaning oneself off coffee with Teeccino is a great way to avoid these effects, by quitting caffeine painlessly. Teeccino allows coffee drinkers to keep their cherished coffee ritual with all the enjoyment and satisfaction of a freshly brewed cup! Benefits of Teeccino include:

Antioxidants from carob, dates, barley and almonds

Naturally caffeine free – no processing or chemical residues

Non-acidic – helps restore alkaline balance

Natural energy boost – from nutrients, not stimulants

Contains heart-healthy potassium and soluble fiber

Prebiotic – inulin from chicory root supports beneficial microflora that improve digestion, regularity and intestinal health

Brewed Teeccino is gluten free as verified by independent laboratory tests

Ingredients: Roasted organic carob, organic barley, organic chicory, dates, orange peel, organic dates, almonds, natural citrus flavor, figs.

Contains: Almonds.

  1. Cara says:

I've had teeccino but noticed that I feel sick after. I attribute that to the barley grains so if you are gluten intolerant or eat Paleo, then you do not want to have it. I'm going to try the super coffee since that sounds quite appealing.

The Teeccino looks good. As someone who is 3 months off Coffee I was looking for something warm to drink in the mornings. Def gonna pick up some of that and give it a shot. Thanks!

I see the negative side effects of caffine as more than the benefits. It knocks the kidneys off line for 5 hours. Kidneys filter out lactic and uric acids from the blood. Recovery is better and muscle endurance is better off caffine.

  3. @rogerdoak says:

Looking forward to the results Ben. I can't see myself giving up coffee (especially after buying an expensive coffee machine at Xmas) but I could do with an alternative as I know I should cut down.

  4. Rog says:

Looking forward to the results Ben. Though I can’t see myself giving up coffee altogether I could definitely do with an alternative as I know I should cut down.

  5. Aloka says:

What if you don't drink coffee on a regular basis? As in at all…any advice?

Should I start drinking some sort of caffeinated beverage (like coffee or tea) to see any health benefits?? Just wondering…in some of the podcasts, Ben mentioned that he drinks coffee first thing in the morning before his easy "fasted" workout and that's the best way to see results.

Thank you and wishing you all Good Health and Wellness!

    1. Aloka,

There are definite pros of drinking coffee: enhanced burning of fatty acids during exercise, reduced perception of pain during exercise and enhanced awareness and focus.

      And the cons?

      Check 'em out here: http://www.pacificfit.net/coffee.php

My recommendation: caffeine in moderation, for athletes only, or for people who need short spurts of big mental boosts, like college students before a big final.

  6. Jeff Hoening says:

Good stuff, Ben, thanks. Looking forward to your review after the first week.
