Listen on:

“How can I optimize my health and longevity?”

“How can I live a long time and feel good doing it?”

“What supplements should I take for peak performance?”

“What should my ideal diet look like?”

Honestly, without any data about your blood and biomarkers, you have no idea.

This is because unless you know what your blood looks like under a microscope, there is no way for you to identify with 100% confidence what steps you should take to eat the right diet, to take the right supplements, to protect your health, to enhance your well-being, to perform at peak capacity, and perhaps most importantly, to live as long as possible with as high a quality of life as possible.

Enter blood testing.

Blood testing is the most important step you can take to identify and prevent life-threatening diseases before they happen to you. With your blood test results in hand, you can catch critical issues in your body before they manifest as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, or worse. Knowledge of exactly what is going on inside your body empowers you to implement a science-based disease-prevention program that can literally add decades of healthy years to your life.

And if your goal is to not only stop disease, but to also perform at your peak physical and cognitive capacity, blood testing is absolutely crucial for identifying which diet, which supplements and which lifestyle steps you should take to optimize your specific and unique health parameters.

But sadly, most annual medical check-ups that the average physician orders are simply routine, old-school blood tests that don't even test for the most important markers of disease risk, and that are simply designed to make sure you're “not dying”. They aren't designed to optimize longevity or to ensure your body is completely primed to perform at peak capacity.

What most people don't realize is that you can skip your physician and simply manage the entire process for getting your blood work done yourself. And if you want to test absolutely every little thing that affects your organs, your energy, your hormones, your health and your longevity, then you've found the ultimate answer. I worked closely with WellnessFX, America's top laboratory for concierge blood testing and online access to all your blood testing results, to develop the Longevity Blood Testing Panel, which is the most complete blood testing package for men that money can buy. This is by far the most comprehensive blood testing package I recommend and is designed for the high performer, biohacker or anti-aging enthusiast who wants access to the same type of executive health panel and screening that would normally cost tens of thousands of dollars at a longevity institute.

The panel I discuss in today's podcast dives deep into overall metabolic functioning for optimal long-term health and longevity, and includes thyroid function, stress response, blood glucose regulation, sex hormone balance, heavy metals, inflammation, organs of detoxification (liver, kidneys, gallbladder, and lungs), proteins, electrolytes, blood oxygen and nutrient delivery, immune system status, vitamin D status and much, much more, including:

  • 25-Hydroxy-Vitamin D
  • Apolipoprotein A-1
  • Apolipoprotein B
  • Blood Lead
  • Blood Mercury
  • Cardio IQ Lipoprotein Fractionation
  • Ion Mobility
  • Complete Blood Count w/ differential
  • Complete Metabolic Panel
  • Copper
  • Cortisol
  • Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate
  • Ferritin, serum
  • Fibrinogen
  • Folate
  • Free Fatty Acids
  • Hemoglobin A1c
  • Homocysteine
  • High-sensitivity C-reactive protein
  • IGF-1 (Growth hormone surrogate)
  • Insulin
  • Iron, TIBC
  • Lipid Panel
  • Lipoprotein (a)
  • Luteinizing Hormone
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids
  • RBC Magnesium
  • Reverse T-3
  • Selenium
  • SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin)
  • T-3 Total
  • T-3 Uptake
  • T-4 (Thyroxine)
  • T-3 Free
  • T-4 Free
  • Testosterone + Free Testosterone
  • Thiamine
  • Thyroglobulin Antibodies
  • Thyroid Peroxidase AB
  • TSH
  • Uric Acid
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B12
  • Zinc
  • Estradiol

As you can see, I've held nothing back and covered all bases with this customized blood panel. You will not find a test this comprehensive anywhere else, guaranteed. From identifying disease to optimizing longevity and anti-aging to maximizing performance, this test gives you absolutely everything you need.

During this podcast, in which I cover my own results from my recent longevity panel, you'll discover:

  • My own process of testing my blood.
    • I had 19 tubes of blood drawn; you typically have 3-5 tubes drawn in a blood test.
    • My motivation: What if you want the same type of blood test that would be tens of thousands of dollars at a longevity center?
    • I wanted to advise myself with more precision than typical blood tests such as TSH.
    • I designed a package with Wellness FX, for men and women.
    • I do this on a quarterly basis; although once a year (or once per life) is sufficient for most people.
    • First thing you see on the report: cardiovascular health.
  • Basic lipid panel.
    • Risk factors: Red (high caution); orange (pay attention); green (good to go).
    • A lot of red doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing; all green doesn't necessarily mean all good either.
  • My total cholesterol is red: 267.
    • High cholesterol isn't a risk factor; it's when it becomes oxidized.
    • My HDL levels are through the roof: 151.
    • High level of HDL could mean your body is carrying a lot of metabolites to the liver due to constant inflammation.
    • I tested all my inflammations, all very low.
  • Question to ask: are you a lean mass hyper responder?
    • Could have a higher LDLP particle count.
    • High HDL, inflammation is low, not of concern.
  • High cholesterol and high inflammation, be concerned.
  • Below lipid panel you'll see LDL particles.
  • I use the Thorne multivitamin.
  • The chlorogenic acid you find in artichoke extract is efficacious in lowering APOB
  • My peak LDL size has been climbing; ideally I want it above 222 1/2.
    • My LDL particle count is actually low.
  • Small low-density lipoprotein low compared to peak LDL size.
  • Overall I'm happy with my results. Look for increase in the size of my LDL particles.

“How can I live a long time and feel good doing it?”

  • Free fatty acids associated with diabetes and heart disease.
  • Omega Index: two different fatty acids in your red blood cells.
  • Arachidonic acid levels are normal; I feel like I could step up my Omega 6 fatty acid intake. (Sprinkle hemp seeds on your salad.)
  • Metabolic health:
    • Risk factors for diabetes and insulin resistance. You want your insulin levels relatively low.
    • Wellness FX will give suggestions on how to lower insulin levels.
    • My blood glucose level wasn't concerning, but a bit higher than normal.
    • Homa IR score: Takes both glucose and insulin levels into account. A ratio of glucose vs. insulin.
  • Thyroid health:
    • You typically see only TSH. Mine has much more…
    • My antibodies to thyroid are very low.
    • Reverse T3 is very low; not concerned about stress.
    • Free thyroxin index is normal.
    • Thyroid peroxidase is a target of antibodies.
    • I have low T3, T4, both total and free.
    • My natural weight is 190-195; my actual weight is 175. I rarely eat until I'm full.
  • Metabolic hormones:
    • IGF is a bit low; I'll take colostrum for this.
  • Cortisol:
    • It's at 24; I want it between 2-20.
    • If it's elevated on one snapshot, consider testing again.
    • Cortisol metabolites.
    • Dutch test for hormones
  • Liver and Kidneys:
    • High levels of creatinine; if you exercise prior to a lab test, the creatinine will be elevated.
    • Blood urea nitrogen elevated. Forms when proteins break down. Elevates when people are a) dehydrated or b) exercised the day prior to the test.
    • My liver values are of concern. ALT when elevated mildly not of concern; mine have raised each of the last 3 tests.
    • Foods that are good for the liver.
  • “What supplements should I take for peak performance?”
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. I may fall into this category.
  • Electrolytes
    • Looking at Co2 and chloride levels.
    • My Co2 has dropped.
  • Bone health:
    • More Vitamin D is not better; Above 80 you have increased risk of mortality.
    • If calcium is abnormal, can be caused by abnormal albumin.
  • The blood:
    • You have two components of your blood: cellular (red, white, platelets) and liquid (plasma).
    • My mean platelet volume is okay.
    • My white blood cell count looks great. Either too little or too much can lead to mortality.
    • Red blood cells: Look great. I spend time in the sauna which is great for blood production.
    • My iron levels are fine.
    • An extra steak or two per week wouldn't kill me.
    • Floradix
  • Vitamins and minerals:
    • Folic acid is essential for DNA synthesis.
    • When folate is high, it could mean using a lousy multivitamin.
    • Vitamin B12 is required for proper nerve function; mine is through the roof.
    • Vitamin A is in perfect amount.
    • Red blood cell magnesium the most precise way to measure magnesium in cells.
    • Copper needed in trace amounts.
    • Zinc important for nails, DNA synthesis, chronic disease management; too much causes bad breath, excessive sweating. Black ant extract is great for zinc.

I have read an article that blood type needs compatibility with different foods so you would not get much weight.

LH of .5 and total T of 800. You are not being honest with the people you are trying to recruit as customers.

You are a guy with years of low T, just own up to it and explain why you do what you do.

  3. Lars says:

Ben, any insight on potential causes for low WBC?

Almost all “green” otherwise. Will be going through in more detail to see which markers are near the borders of the low-risk range, for clues.

    1. Could be any number of things, I'd have to know way more about your diet/lifestyle/etc… If you'd like to dive deep into your results, I could help you via a one-on-one consult: https://bengreenfieldcoaching.com/

  4. Mark says:

Why did your blood work disappeared after my comment?

    1. It's still there. I'm not on TRT. I still compete actively in Spartan and Ironman, and TRT is banned.

  5. Mark says:

Why didn’t you mention you’re on trt? Your lh levels apparently indicate it. If so it doesn’t work well for you considering that your shbg levels are still elevated.

  6. Alex Green says:

Hi Ben….thank you for always providing a wealth of information! I ordered your longevity panel for women (I’m 37) and am looking for a knowledgeable doctor to help me interpret and treat in the Houston area, or other cities in Texas. Results are showing hypothyroid and other hormonal imbalances from what I can tell. Appreciate any directives you have. Thanks!

    1. If you schedule a consult we can take a deep dive into your full results/actionable steps: BenGreenfieldFitness.com/coaching

    2. The New Neander's Physiological Literacy says:

      Alex,

A good way to find a knowledgeable doctor is to test him or her.

Learn a couple of things on the health subject that interests you and asked a couple of questions you know the answers to. If the doctor does well, there are more chances it is a good doctor.

  7. Joe says:

Hi Ben, I wanted to have a look at your results while listening to the podcast, but the pdf is not available, it says: “Failed to fetch Error: URL to the PDF file must be on exactly the same domain as the current web page.”

      1. Dale AKA - Healthnut says:

Ben – Thank you. I did fine. It would have been nice if the guy drawing the blood
had a sense of humor. Very dry but I was happy he did a great job. I thought it would be
19 viles but it was 22. I didnt pass out but looking forward to connecting on coaching for results.

  9. Jared says:

Ben, enjoyed the Solocast. I’ve always been one who tends to be more interested in the information/data than the “for entertainment purposes” banter with a co-host. And the less euphemisms and expletives, the better. None would be great.

I noticed you commented that you were really happy with your B-12 number. I’m assuming you are supplementing B-12 because the number seemed abnormally high to me and outside the “normal” range. In the past, I was supplementing with B-12 and ended up with a 1322. My health practitioner told me to reduce my B-12 supplementation by half.

I was under the impression that a B-12 level that is excessive could potentially be cancer-causing.

Are there any benefits to an excessively high B-12 level and why did you not state in the podcast that you would be reducing your B-12 supplementation? (It looked like your previous test revealed a B-12 level >2000!!)

  10. Taylor says:

Ben, I listened to the whole podcast but did not hear you offer a discount code for WellnessFX. You got anything?

  11. Becky says:

Thanks for the super interesting podcast. You talk a lot about the effects of exercise on blood tests. Can blood glucose be impacted but high intensity exercise? I’ve had a few relatively high glucose rests but my A1c was 5.2 when I got it tested last. However, I often go to the gym before I get my fasted blood test.

    1. Yes it can result in a temporary spike in blood glucose levels.

  12. Cody says:

    Hey Ben,

Thanks for the deep dive into various tests that we should consider both as individuals, but also what to look for when helping clients. I’m curious if you’ve had a chance to listen into Peter Attia’s discussion with Dave Feldman? https://peterattiamd.com/davefeldman/ There were some interesting points of debate brought up between the two and while I’m sure there is a lot to unpack there, I’d be interested to get your take on the overall discussion. Similarly, Peter recently did a series with Tom Dayspring and any thoughts around his researched are certainly welcome as well. Thanks!

    1. Thanks, best way to get my feedback on this sort of thing is to come up with a question or two about it and call into the podcast: http://speakpipe.com/BenGreenfield

  13. Erik says:

Ben, I was on WellnessFX’s website, and their Premium Diagnostics Test is $925. It looks like it covers quite a bit. What extras come with the “Ben Greenfield: Longevity (Men)” that make it $1,200? I know you always get the best deals for your listeners, so I’m assuming it’s some good stuff. Thanks.

    1. My longevity panels are customized specifically for men and women. You could compare them with the WellnessFX Premium Test to see exactly how they differ. One example would be that my men's panel tests for zinc, while the other does not.

      1. Erik says:

Thanks for the response. After making a spreadsheet and comparing, I can see that your “Ben Greenfield: Longevity (Men)” does offer a LOT of unique extras. When the budget allows, I’ll be ordering it from your website. Just FYI, I’ve sent a couple of unanswered emails to the good folks at WellnessFX asking what the differences are between your package and their premium. I know they’re a reputable company, but it’s disappointing that they didn’t respond.
Thank you for sharing so much great info, and for working to get great deals for your listeners.

  14. Hi Ben,

Love the solo side, you are so funny and interesting.

Anyway had similar issue with liver enzymes. Did a little research and some medicinal herbs can really do a number on those. I was taking Ashwaghanda and Vitex and I stopped immediately. One week later went back liver enzyme had dropped significantly. Then did Milk Thistle for a month and now my liver is squeaky clean! Just wanted to share that as you mention you take a lot of Chinese herbs.

  15. Jesse Dean says:

    Hi Ben,

Have you listened to Peter Attia debate Dave Feldman on his podcast The Drive regarding his lean mass hyper responder lipid model? Peter doesn’t believe it is a legitimate model, would be curious what your thoughts are on that?

  16. Sam says:

Loved the Solosode. Learned a lot. Would love to have more of these.

  17. Octavio Ferrer says:

Solosodes allowed under two conditions: (1) Don’t keep repeating the word “solosode” over and over, and (2) next podcast follow up a Q&A show with that Canadian comedian, what’s his name?

This was an awesome show, I learned a ton, I wouldn’t change anything regarding duration, content, depth, etc.

    1. Thanks for the feedback, don't worry, the Canadian comedian isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

  18. Danny says:

Solosode was good, but I missed the banter you and Brock have! Bring back Brock! :)

  19. Mishan says:

Please do more solosodes! I learn so much from YOU. And shorter is not better. The depth you go is refreshing and I always want to hear more. Thank you for being THE ONLY person and podcast that “geeks” out on the science because everything else out there feels so superficial to me.

  20. Dave Fellows says:

Hi Ben, whether it’s a solosode or interview style, I think it’s the content that is the most important. The delivery format is secondary IMO. The content of this podcast was absolutely bang on. Incredibly useful and super interesting! Even when you’re doing interviews, I often find the portions where you’re riffing on some aspect and going deep on the technical side the most interesting.

You mentioned the occasional difficulty coming up with two full length episodes a week. You could consider more frequent shorter episodes (in addition to at least one the full length each week) if there’s something relevant to riff on. Chris Masterjohn has started doing <10 min episodes on a specific topic which I find quite useful and digestible.

  21. Kay L says:

My lipid panel shows that I have high triglycerides

    Cholesterol 179mg/dL

    HDL 68 mg/dl

    LDL 91 mg/dl

    **** Triglycerides (nonfasting) 212 mg/dl ****** (Normal is < 149mg/dl)

    cholesterol, Non-hDL 111mg/dl

    HBA1C : 5.3% (Normal < 5.6%

    Normal blood cell count.

What additional tests can I ask my doctor to order? Thanks!

    1. I'd be happy to go over your results/advise on further tests via a personal one-on-one consult. Just go to http://BenGreenfieldFitness.com/coaching and then choose a 20 or 60-minute consult, whichever you'd prefer. I can schedule ASAP after you get that.

  22. Nikki says:

HI Ben, I was wondering about your gallbladder/liver ache that you got (I have been taking broccoli sprouts for mine for 2 years so I have a personal interest). But my question, is do you think that it could be related to methylation? I went and looked at your Ben Lynch, Strategene, results, and you have a red snp, PEMT (rs7946) (same as me). This could require an increase in choline?

    1. Unlikely, but this one will take some research. I'll talk to Ben Lynch and in meantime, stay tuned to my podcast for more updates!

  23. Connor Blankenship says:

Dude are the F*cking man you have no idea. Seriously I’ve been thinking that you should do more solo episodes because I just learn so damn much from these podcasts that I cant get enough. I have listened to every episode available and although I learn so much from other podcasts as well. Not only do you have a way of translating this science to English, but your interests and morals and standards and beliefs seem to be completely aligned with mine. I see the last comment says they couldn’t listen to your soothing voice all day but although your voice is far from annoying, I’ve gotta admit it has been weird having your voice stuck in my head a few times after listening to so many of your podcasts. You have made it possible for me to learn so much while I work full time and attend school in the evenings. I have put a lot of what I have learned from your podcast into practice in my life and I can’t tell you how much better I feel. I think you would trip out to know how solid I feel like we are on the same team. You said want to raise an army of people like yourself you should know you’re already doing that just with the podcast! Keep it up Ben, my brother, you are seriously making the world a better place I can say first hand, you have been my best teacher. I often find myself with advanced physiology questions That I wish I could just ask you to explain to me. I feel like we could do a whole podcast with just me asking you questions. I wish I could just pick your brain myself for days. I might be your biggest fan 💪 One love brother

  24. Immalee Clair Ryan says:

Hi, About the solosode, I find your voice soothing and funny. Honestly, I could listen to it all day. :)

  25. Jeanenne says:

I have had wonderful success with Standard Process’ 21 Day Purification. Basically an elimination diet with supplements for liver cleansing. I have my preferred brands of supplements so I did concoct a line up of equivalent elements using NOW brand supplements and Arbonne brand for the vegan protein powder (my gut is very particular about the protein powder I feed it). Also, I did not eliminate my coffee.

What led to this detox was abdominal tenderness bordering on distress after eating and an ultrasound that showed some non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. After just one detox the physical symptoms cleared up and have remained clear for over a year. To be transparent, there is no follow up ultrasound to see if things look differently.

Enjoyed your solo podcast. It is nice to mix things up.

    Best wishes, buddy.

haven’t heard episode yet, but I’m fine with this solo-podcast style you talk at the begining.

I’m deep diving into your data now….

    thanks

  28. megan says:

Love this episode, thanks for sharing! Just wondering why you only do sauna 4/days a week? Wouldn’t there be more benefit doing it 5-7 days? Thanks!

    1. You can actually get mineral depletion by sweating TOO much BUT for more brief forays not a big deal (just don't spend hours in sauna every day)

  29. Elaina Long says:

Hi Ben, this was a really great episode and refreshing to hear you do a Solosode, as I’ve not had the pleasure of following your early podcasts. The blood work information was super helpful for me as I have just had a panel done myself from my GP. My HDL and LDL were both slightly above normal and my Erthrocyte sedimentation rate a bit slow. My GP is not too concerned but would like my LDL a bit lower. I’m just waiting for my liver , fasting glucose and vit D test results. Interestingly I had an abnormal Rheumatoid factor which has been reversed and I’m wondering if this was due to the stem cell therapy I had ?? Thank you so much for all the information you have on this episode as I now have a better understanding on interpreting my blood panel and am inspired to do a more comprehensive one. I’ve found a lovely after dinner tea which supports liver function by Dr. Stuart. Called Liver Detox .It contains Peppermint,Dandelion root,Liquorice root, Chamomile, Centaury herb, Boldo leaves, Couchgrass root, Restharrow root and Milk Thistle. Thanks again and more Solosodes please.

  30. Justin Hannah says:

Hey ben. Just had a short physical at work and my hdl was 18 with tc ratio of 12.4!! Last blood test my tc ratio was 3.3 8months ago. I have been eating high fat with a lot of red meat very low carb. Can this drastic diet change cause such low hdl!!??

    1. Justin Hannah says:

Also I’m 31 run and lift 5 days a week height 5’10 179lbs waist 29”. If that even matters. I’m sure you’ll say you need to see full blood panel lol. Thanks 👍

    2. Yep, especially if you've cut out plants and are overdoing the omega 6 fatty acids from the meat. Yet another reason I'm not a fan of the carnivore diet or very high intake of sat'd fats.

  31. Dave says:

The solo works. Great Podcast! I would suggest for a podcast idea: that once a year you post and review a volunteer listener’s bloodwork and record your hour consultation. I would happily volunteer.

I would like to know what are the differences in your Longevity Test vs. WellnessFX Premium?

    https://www.wellnessfx.com/premium

    Thank you in advance

  32. Jorge says:

Great podcast – truly love the content you produce – Thank you! I Just wanted to respond about your liver results (ALT and AST). Three years ago, a blood test identified my then 14 yr old daughter’s levels at 298 and 240 respectively. She was diagnosed with Auto Immune Hepatitis and a liver biopsy showed that she was dangerously close to requiring a transplant. Luckily, immediate treatment stopped the progression. We have been treating her with a triple anti-oxidant protocol (Alpha Lipoic Acid, Silymarin and Selenium) for the last 2 1/2 years and we are incredibly grateful that her numbers are in line (ALT 22 and AST 27). My wife and I read about the protocol in Dr. Burt Berkson’s book, “The Alpha Lipoic Acid Breakthrough”. I do not know what would have triggered your recent rise in these levels but I think this protocol could definitely help. Please reach out if you need any more information. Thank you!

    1. Thanks for the info! Will check this out!

  33. Zachary says:

Thoughts on ways to lower Lp(a)?

    1. Yep, lower vegetable oil, starch and sugar consumption and follow everything else that I tell you to do in podcast (listen carefully!)

      1. Zachary Boles says:

Thank you! I eat a Whole Foods plant based diet; so sugar is pretty high from natural sources (dates, sweet potatoes, blueberries, raw honey). I don’t eat any oils at all to be safe. I’ll cut back on fruit intake and retest in 60 days or so. Thanks again!

        1. Malik says:

Camu Camu (for vit C) and lysine also are good.

  34. Ryan says:

Amazing Podcast Ben!! I really enjoyed he solocsst keep them coming man love the material

  35. Jaclyn Buckreis says:

I think it was very useful to have you alone on this podcast; in general I try to extract the most important info in the least amount of time from podcasts because I listen to these while walking with my baby around the neighborhood! Best podcast you’ve done in a while because I’ve been trying to narrow down all the possible “important” tests to have and it can be a bit overwhelming, so I hope to just run the ones you’ve done here and then re-listen to this. Great job as always.

  36. Stephen says:

Solocast is great. The info on Lean Mass Hyper Responders was insightful. I maintain 7% to 8% body fat year round and eating Keto blows up my LDL and particle count. I thought it might be a LDL receptor issue but will continue to explore this LMHR hypothesis. As someone who does regular blood testing, I really appreciate this podcast and will round out my panel with your recommendations. Again, solocast is solid in my opinion. Thanks Ben

Great info!! I’m just a little confused about increasing T level. You mentioned on this podcast that putting ice/cold pack increases your T level, yet exposing your junk to Joovv light does the same as well. It seems contradictory. Please elaborate.

  38. Glen says:

A very informative podcast. Thank you Ben and I like the solo podcast for the reasons noted by other commenters.

  39. Bloodisfinebutiamnot says:

Yes to the solo podcast, you have no one to interrupt but yourself and you’re funnier 😂.

Colostrum – if that’s what you said you’d take is a WADA banned substance (not sure if you are still competing).

I thought you were saying Apple B when you said APO B :)

My last Blood test I had very high (>100), SBGH – I think they just assumed I had fasted? I think I had eaten that day of the test but perhaps did some IF the weekend before.

    1. Where is the evidence that colostrum is banned by WADA?

  40. Randy says:

Solocast is great. You could add a few questions that you answer (maybe you pick a few that relate to the subject at hand… or not) because I do greatly enjoy the Q&A shows.

  41. Hi Ben, thank you for another great podcast! Yes, to solo-casting. Interestingly, I just got my DUTH & blood results done.
not sure why I got all my “fat” markers high…

    Adiponectin 14.8 ?g/mL High
    Leptin 9.4 ng/mL High
Arachidonic Acid/EPA Ratio (CHL) 36.0 High
    Omega-6/Omega-3 Ratio 11.6 High
Arachidonic Acid 10.8 % by wt High
Linoleic Acid 27.2 % by wt High

I am pretty fit & healthy overall…curious to hear your thoughts.

I think all your podcasts are great! The mixing up of solocasts and guests is great. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and being a wonderful source of encouragement and information to live the best, long life possible.

  43. Shon G says:

Big fan of the solocast. Feel free to share your knowledge whenever it’s most convenient for you. Thanks for all you do to keep us informed of the latest and greatest, Ben. I’m always learning something new.

  44. Julie says:

Yes to your Solo podcasts as well. 👍🏽 Love hearing your soothing voice. Thanks for wealth of knowledge 😁💙

    Hi Ben,

I’m a 29 year old male and have been very active my whole life, yet I have high cholesterol (280). I played sports throughout college and I am an active duty military officer. Since I can remember, I’ve always followed a low carb diet (around 150g or less) and as of the past year I’ve gone full Keto (50g or less). My HDL and triglyceride leves are both normal, but my LDL is very high (230), should I be concerned? I’ve never smoked, I follow a relatively clean diet, I am very active, and I’ve never had any sort of warning signs/complications. Any advice would help, thanks!

    Sebastian

    Hi Ben,
great episode, I really enjoyed it! When talking about vitamin D levels you mentioned that you have a gene that prevents you from creating vitamin D from sunlight. What gene exactly is that and is it covered in a normal 23andme gene test? I might have the same gene, since I also have low vitamin D levels when I am not supplementing even in summer when I got lots of sunshine.
Thanks again and greeting from Germany,
    Tobi

Hi Ben. Jamie Emmer from Hope, Idaho here. (Your Foundation buddy Kate Emmer Murphy’s dad).

Ive been a follower ever since you blew past me at the Leadman Triathlon like Carl lewis on hot coals in the run portion of the race.

I enjoyed todays solo podcast. Perhaps it takes me back to the early years. I also really enjoy the interviews, so if it were me, I’d intermix a blend. (Its got to be less stressful, too.) Great content, as usual.

Also, we have a place up at Schwietzer where we spend a lot of time year round, and Kate mentioned she thought you would enjoy mountain biking up here sometime. So this is your official invite!

She and her husband Eric Murphy will be here this coming Weds. Oct.3RD. They will be staying on the mountain, so if you want to kill two birds with one stone, the fall colors are peaking here at 5000 Ft. evelvation. Would also leave you , your wife, and the twins an open invite to come ski/board with us this, or any winter. You would be welcome to stay here if we are out of town. Pretty cool building, with private gym, private sauna, private ski locker room. Google Evolution at Schweitzer for a look.

    Peace and blessings,

    Jamie Emmer

    1. Thanks man! I'll reach out next time I'm in the area!

  48. Paul De Sadeleer says:

Great episode. As you mentioned, I would be very interested to learn how your results could improve by systematically eating in a surplus for a period of time and gaining weight. For athletes staying extra lean year-round, it would be insightful to learn of the potential beneficial health implications on biomarkers by accepting an increase in bf%.

  49. Joseph Trettel says:

    Thanks Ben!

Are u guys offering any discount code for the Longevity Blood Test with Wellness? Didn’t catch anything but wanted to be sure.

Thanks again for all your great insight!

  50. Ty says:

Awesome episode! I’m wanting to get a more extensive blood test independently from my doctor’s office, so this podcast will be of great use to me.
I’m definitely curious about your liver values (of note: edibles have never caused my alt/ast to be above 23). Keep us updated as you get it figured out, and thanks for the good work!

  51. Michael Padula says:

Great job! You left nothing out and nailed everything. As far as your liver aren’t coffee enemas supposed to help that?

  52. Cal says:

Ben, great podcast! Thank you! I like the solocast…keep em coming. Very informative. Also, strange as this may sound, it’s nice to know that even an uber health-fitness guru such as yourself doesn’t have perfect blood panels. I sometimes get very discouraged as I struggle to do everything right and still am lacking on various blood markers.

  53. Tricia says:

Great episode. Bet your liver is working overtime because of all the supplements you take.

    1. Exactly my thoughts as well. Remove supplements for one month. Then retest liver enzymes.

      1. Daryl says:

Great fan of your work Ben and enjoyed this episode. Always learn a lot from you. Am a doc, and must admit think your liver functions are a worry. Up > four fold in less than a year. AST can come from muscle as well as liver and I often see it high in athletes in isolation, but ALT is liver specific and not affected by exercise. Checking creatine kinase (CK) helps to differentiate liver from muscle AST. Your LFT indicate liver inflammation and I havent been convinced by any of your explanations for it. Chances are it is due to some interaction of your supps/ cbd or other xenobiotics you are being exposed to. Other possibility but much less likely is a hep virus. As Josiah said, eliminate anything you can, retest and if OK, start reintroducing. CDB can cause increase LFT in some people. I hope you get this fixed soon. Thanks for your brilliant work.

      2. Steven Stapleton says:

After reading the Dr’s comments below, thought I would chime in with asking about time restricted feeding for you according to Dr Sachin Panda, where you also do not take supplements outside of a 12 hour or less window, mainly during the daytime hours, due to the liver’s own circadian rhythm. Rhonda Patrick talks about it quite a bit and i think i heard you mention it. That way you are still taking your supplements but doing it within a certain time frame and giving your liver a chance to rest. Enjoyed the pod as usual. Thank you for your work and keep it coming.

  54. Lisa Laughlin says:

Hey Ben, thanks for all this. info. You may want to try a castor oil pack on liver gallbladder area with an infrared heating pad in the evening before bed for an hour for a couple of weeks as well as coffee enemas for your liver stuff. Also I was wondering if you knew weather the wellness FX offers either financing for the blood work or if they would let someone so it in 2-3 payments? I’ve got Hashimotos and am recovering from mold sickness and would love to get a deeper look and some consultation but can’t do the total cost all at once. Thanks so much.

  55. WB says:

Great podcast, very informative…especially since I have virtually identical results on my last test!

  56. Mark Austin says:

Really enjoyed this podcast. Incredibly informative and helpful.

The solosode format was perfect. Having a sidekick chipping in constantly would have been disruptive and made it unnecessarily longer.

Instead we got a ton of interesting, useful and actionable information.

looking forward to spending time with you in Switzerland next year.

    1. good feedback. Thanks Mark.
