Listener Q&A:

As compiled, deciphered, edited and sometimes read by Rachel Browne, the NEW Podcast Sidekick.

Chia Seeds vs. Flax Seeds (And The Truth About Flax, Chia & Estrogen)

Brock says: What's your take on the Chia/Flaxseed phyto-estrogen thing that a lot of people have been taking about? Flax are apparently extremely high in phyto-estrogen and Chia seeds are getting a bad rap. Both of them are things you recommend in the past, not in huge quantities, but is there anything he should be worried about?

In my response, I recommend:

Carb Cycling For Fat Loss

Wendy says: She recently listened to the Mark Sisson podcast and was in agreement with everything. She's wondering what your thoughts are on eating a LCHF diet for 5 days then switching to a LFHC diet for three days and repeating this cycle forever for fat loss?

In my response, I recommend:

How To Biohack A Hotel

Ian says: He's trying to build a high end luxury bed and breakfast in Canada and wants your suggestion for what to provide people. Its a very active sporty town – hardcore mountain biking, skiing, dirt biking etc. What would be the best gear, home set up, supplements, sleep optimization and recovery ideas to include?

The Ultimate Altitude Training Supplement Stack

Hans says: He's training for a 50K ultramarathon in Patagonia, in April, and he's doing it from Cuzco in Peru – 3500 m above sea level. His body has taken 3 weeks to adapt and now he can go for long runs with out feeling exhausted. His heart rate compared to effort is very high – how can he adjust his training at this altitude so he can get the most out of it? Also, the race is at sea level, is there a golden number of days he should stay at sea level before the race?

In my response, I recommend:

-Nitric oxide precursors (e.g. Thorne arginine)

-Hydration (e.g. coconut water, OralIV, etc.)

-Adaptogens to assist with nervous system (e.g. TianChi)

-Mitochondrial support (e.g. Mitogen)

-Electrolytes (e.g. Athlytes by Millennium Sports – 50% discount mstbg09)

    Hi Ben,

Thanks for sharing your Psilocybin experience. I live in Hawaii (Maui). Wondering if you could tell me where you got the edibles, I would to see if I can find them here.

    Mahalo!

    Dana

    1. They were from a friend and he didn't share his source!

  2. Melissa says:

Hi Ben! I love hearing about your adventure and am wondering if you’d be willing to share the itinerary from your Italy bike ride from Rome up to Florence that you mentioned in this episode? My husband and I started biking last year and think this would be rad! Thanks!

    1. Whew boy. That will take some digging for me but I will see what I can do… I know I have it stowed away right now but I think it's in the garage in a box

  3. Todd says:

Hi Ben! My wife makes me a flaxseed hair gel, which you may be familiar with, as a natural alternative to commercial hair gel. After listening to this podcast and hearing you talk about phytoestrogens, is their a risk of phytoestrogens absorbing into the skin that could result in deleterious effects for me? I like the flaxseed hair gel a lot but would happily avoid it if this was a concern. Thanks!

    1. This would not be an issue as those lignans need to be converted via stomach bacteria.

  4. Terrence says:

What was the name of the genetic testing company that takes your 23andme results and gives you a bunch of info for $5?

      1. Terrence says:

Thanks! Good luck in the fight. I’ve had 5 MMA fights so feel free to reach out if you have any fight-specific questions about training!

  5. Ian says:

    Hi Ben

Thank you so much for the answers to my question about biohacking a B and B. Unfortunately i will not have a gym in the premises so an altitude training system is not viable. The ketone powder is something i would have to think about! What about XCT or MCT oil instead? Apart from that, I am implementing everything else you mentioned plus and earth pulse machine for the bedrooms. I am installing low blue light bulbs through out and ethernet cables just like you mentioned. Casper mattresses are a must. I have chosen a Clearlight 2/3 person infrared sauna. Would you have TV’s in the rooms? We can definitely talk about a consultation. please contact me as I’m still tweaking my plans ready to start building soon and need all the knowledge possible to provide a healthy home for my family and guests staying.

  6. April Gali says:

Of all the medical interventions devised by the brains of humans, arguably vaccines have saved more lives and prevented more disability than any other medical treatment. When it comes to infectious disease, vaccination is the ultimate in preventive medicine, at least for diseases for which vaccines can be developed. We also know that when vaccination rates fall, it opens the door for diseases once controlled to come roaring back. We saw this phenomenon with the measles a year ago in the Disneyland measles outbreak. We’ve seen it around the country, with measles outbreaks occurring in areas where a lot of antivaccine and vaccine-averse parents live. Perhaps the most spectacular example occurred in the UK, where prior to Andrew Wakefield’s fraudulent case series in The Lancet that was used to link the MMR vaccine to autism, measles was under control; it came roaring back as MMR uptake plummeted in the wake of the publicity his research engendered.

  7. Rob says:

Hi Ben, I know you’re deep into biohacking and know a lot about EMF. Have you even come across airestech.com? I’d like to know your thoughts on their product/technology. I contacted the company awhile ago wondering if there’s any way I can test their product effectiveness. They told me the effectiveness can’t be tested using EMF meter and referred me to their research (http://www.airestech.com/technology/), which sadly I don’t understand a damn thing. Thank you for your time, you rock!

    1. This is actually super interesting. I would love to get these folks on the podcast. I will work on that.
