Listener Q&A [38:00]:

As compiled, deciphered, edited and sometimes read by Brock Armstrong, the Podcast Sidekick.

Why You Get Constipated & What To Do About It

Kelly says: She has been taking probiotics for about 6 months now and she still has major stomach issues. Every vegetable that she eats just ferments in her stomach without digesting and “going through”. She even tried taking laxatives to push things along with no luck. Is she taking too much? What probiotics should she be taking?

How To Get By On Less Sleep

Bruno says: He usually gets about 8 hours of sleep per night and feels great but he is wondering if it is possible to get less sleep (like 6 hours per night) and still feel as good as he does now? Are there any special supplements, food or protocols that will help him feel this good but on less sleep?

How To Use SARMs MK-677 and RAD-140

Grizzell says: She is wondering is the SARMs MK-677 and RAD-140 would be useful for her 87-year-old father? How could they benefit an older man? She is also curious if they could help her.

In my response, I recommend:

Wim Hof vs. Buteyko

Bryan says: Could you compare Wim Hof's breathing method to the Buteyko method (as described by Patrick Mckeown)? Which do you prefer and which is best for long term gains for health and life?

Hi Ben approaching 51 now could I and would it be a good idea to use the sarms for 1 cycle to build back some lost muscle ? Thanks love the info.

    1. Yep, they can be amazing for that.

  2. Jason says:

Hey Ben. You covered sleeping in the podcast but you didn’t mention the SR 1 Delta sleeper. Do you still recommend this device? I may be shifting the grave shift again am thinking of ways to sleep better during the day. I do have black out curtains and tune into brain.fm

    -Jason

    1. I do still recommend the SR1

  3. Green tea: love coffee, but it has to be tea first thing in the morning. When I drank black tea, it was lapsang souchong, so that says something about my taste buds. Now that I’ve switched to green tea, I care much more about the tea itself, than how it’s prepared. (Recently boiled water, tea pearls suspended in the cup, not even a teapot.) Arbor Teas Jasmine Pearl green tea is the best green tea I’ve ever had. Other folks make good jasmine pearl varieties as well, but these folks certify organic.

  4. Mark says:

Hi Ben I believe in a previous post you said that raising IGF 1 to high levels can have detrimental effects would this be the case with MK or does it work differently? Thanks

  5. Becky says:

Any concerns with the amount of sugar in the Thorne MediClear SGS? 5grams per 53gram serving seems like a lot. I am considering the 30 day elemental diet and just wondered if they had changed the formula since you last looked at it. Thank you for all the info you provide! Oh and thoughts on liposomal colostrum and wether colostrum is best taken without food. Thanks!

    1. No this is very low amounts of sugar in fact. I personally consume 150-200g of carbs each day! I recommend NatureColostrum Colostrum and I take 4-6 capsules each morning on an empty stomach, along with probiotics.

  6. Betsy says:

Is the longevity tea a secrete only reserved for the illuninati ;) ??? If not how can we get some please?

    1. LOL– I got mine as gift… If I find a lead on it, I will be sure to share. Please do the same if you find some too!

  7. As much as I like the traditional Japanese tea preparation, you have to be very careful with green tea, especially if you drink a lot. The reason is that virtually ALL green tea is pretty contaminated with LEAD. Lead as in Flint Michigan water. The only way to safely prepare green tea is using tea bags, which miraculously removes contamination. Here’s the link:

  8. Chris says:

Ben, using a player that supports something like the Prestissimo library to play the podcast at 1.4x the speed without raising the pitch, really helps remove the monotony from your voice and make you sound as less of a frat boy (unless your hanging out with the mindpump guys, no algorithm can remove the jockness there, you just keep sounding like you had the whole tray of your sleep cubes)…

Actually, just speeding up would help, but would make you sound like a chipmunk.

If you really want some sleep, you should listen to the Gait guys geek out on everything kinetic chain related, from proprioception to ankle rocker. They are a nice relaxing counterpoint to the hype of Kelly’s mobilityWOD.

  9. Brent Coulter says:

Would you want to do the testosterone boosters at the same time as the sarms ? And after ?

    1. STACK THEM SEPARATELY. I recommend 8-12 weeks on SARMS then shift to one-two combo of Aggressive Strength Testosterone Booster + Estrogen Control Hormone Optimization “

  10. Eggs Tyrone says:

Any calcium scoring result above zero is technically coronary artery disease.

  11. Jill says:

Please share the link to purchase the longevity tea you referred to in the podcast. Thank you!

  12. Karen Doane says:

    Hey

I never heard if answered the gals question abt sarms for herself…wondering if hormone risk for women, protocols etc…especially over 50 gal which Im assuming she is. Wondering about comment Brock made previously abt experience with sarms causing some bloating affect…THX

    Love the podcast 5 stars!

    Cheers

  13. Seth Creekmore says:

I’ve found the YouTube Channel MeiLeaf to be super informative & entertaining when it comes to the proper way to brew quality loose leaf tea, as well as the health benefits, & debunking common myths. I’ve had a chance to talk with Don Mei via Skype and he is a wealth of knowledge. I’d highly suggest checking out his videos as well as reaching out to him. https://www.youtube.com/user/chinalifeteabar

Also, I’d be curious why those studies were just limited to “green tea”. All traditional tea comes from the same Camellia Sinensis plant. The determining factor of whether it is, black, white, green, oolong, purple etc. is based on the level of oxidation and other factors in the preparation process. I’d be curious as well if the standard method of brewing would contain the same benefits as consuming the leaf like you would with Matcha.

    Tea places I would recommend:

    – Spirit Tea http://spirittea.co
    – Mei Leaf https://meileaf.com
    – Five Mountains http://www.five-mountains.com
    – Samovar http://www.samovartea.com (they are a bit overpriced)

    1. Seth Creekmore says:

Also here’s a Brewing Guide for the traditional Gong Fu brewing and Western Style brewing. https://meileaf.com/article/basic-brewing-guide/

  14. Meg says:

Thanks so much for the Wim Hof vs. Buteyko Method breakdown! I’ve studied and practiced both methods but haven’t had much clarity on which method I really need. Now I know… thanks!

  15. Ben says:

Nice to see real tea getting more airtime! (As much as I love coffee too…)

My comment is that beyond Japanese tea, there is a vast Chinese tea culture which is pretty much unknown to most people outside Asia. Chinese greens tend to be a different style than Japanese, but they’re more similar than not – I think you would really enjoy checking them out.

One of the oldest and still most classic ways to brew most Chinese teas is in a lidded cup called a “gaiwan”. You can drink it straight out of the cup, or decant it into smaller cups for drinking. What’s a gaiwan? See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaiwan

A great way to start getting schooled on this is with a couple shops that sell proper Chinese teas – try Red Blossom Tea (https://redblossomtea.com/) or Song Tea (https://songtea.com/). Red Blossom has great resources on their site walking you exactly how to go about it.

Just use spring water and heat water to the right temperature before brewing, using a digital kettle like the Bonavita BV382510V Electric Kettle, Gooseneck Variable Temperature, 1.0L.

I like to use 92C for Taiwanese oolongs, and 88C for Chinese greens.

    Hope this helps!

ps. If you want to be really home-style, just use a tall glass beer pint, toss some tea in the bottom, and fill it with hot water. Use your teeth to strain any that’s floating on top when you drink.

    1. Thank you for this insight!

  17. Jill says:

Where can I buy the longevity tea that you mentioned in the beginning of the podcast? Thank you!

  18. Tim says:

    Hey Ben!

    Great podcast as always!

I heard your call for tea advice…

When in Asheville, NC check out Dobra Tea House (http://dobrateanc.com/wavl)

They have a plethora of teas (their menu is about the size of Beyond Training); all well sourced and prepared and served in traditional fashion. They may be able to teach you a thing or two, or at least create an enjoyable tea experience for you. One of the many things I miss about that wonderful town. I hope you see this message before your trip and have to stop in.

    Happy Racing!
