Today's rambling is an abbreviated one.

Why?

Well, frankly, I've been knee-deep—or, I suppose more appropriately stated, microphone-deep—in recording the complete, self-narrated audiobook version of my book Fit Soul.

And, in the wee hours of the morning when the rest of the family is asleep, I've been working on recording my first album.

So, as a result, I've had to buckle down quite a bit the past few weeks and do a tad less deep work on my usual article writing. However, I thought it would be fun to share with you the lyrics from one of the original songs that will appear on this album I've been working on.

My desire for this particular song was to write a mildly epic, anthem-like praise and worship song that a choir or crowd could belt out at the top of their lungs to give glory to the Almighty Creator.

The song is titled “You Are God Eternal.” The full lyrics appear below, along with my recording of the song itself. “You Are God Eternal” wraps up worship of the entire Holy Trinity into three verses, with the first verse worshiping God, the second worshiping Jesus, and the third worshiping the Holy Spirit.

Finally, you can of course feel free to use this song in your own church or worship services if you'd like. I'd be honored, actually, as that is my vision and intention for this song. In other words, if you know a praise and worship leader, musician, church, or anyone else who would like to use this song for worship, then, by all means, proceed! If helpful, the tablature appears here.

You Are God Eternal

Verse 1:

You are God eternal, holy Yahweh, El Elyon and Adonai

Rock of all the ages, from beginning, Creator of the earth and sky

Praise to the great I Am, amen, amen, amen

Verse 2:

You are Son eternal, from beginning, Prince Of Peace, Emmanuel

Faithful and true witness, son of Mary, anointed one of Israel

Hosanna to the lamb, amen, amen, amen

Verse 3:

You are Holy Spirit, Dove descending, blessed and anointing fire

Joy of the Almighty, intercessor, presence of our God most high

Divine, inspiring breath, amen, amen, amen

Chorus out:

Amen, amen, amen, amen, amen, amen

I'm curious to hear your thoughts and feedback on this song. Music is a total side hobby and passion project for me, but I enjoy singing and songwriting immensely and could see myself doing more of it in the future. I hope that hearing a bit of my music blesses and encourages you, and you can, of course, feel free to share wherever you would like.

By the way, my studio editing collaborator on this project was the talented and wonderful Tracy Towns, who also collaborated with me on a cover song I recorded with my children and wife called “The Blessing,” which I featured on Instagram a few months ago (you can listen to it here), and who is also working with me on a full ten-song set we'll have ready by the end of this year.

In the meantime, leave any comments below, and definitely also ping me there in the comments section or via my contact form here on the website if you can help get this song out to churches, musicians, and worship leaders. There would be nothing greater for this song than for it to be belted out by hundreds of thousands of people worshiping God on a Sunday morning, and that vision is my prayer!

Just checked my email late in the afternoon and found your Sunday Ramblings, which I always enjoy. What a wonderful surprise to hear this song that praises the Trinity, that honors the Godhead. I commend you for boldly sharing your faith and using this platform to do so. As the Apostle Paul so boldly proclaimed that he was not “ashamed of the Gospel of Christ,” you are following His example. May the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit continue to guide and bless your life and ministry.

I am actually lost for words. I enjoyed this song and will share it. It has also inspired me immensely as I am putting together pieces from the podcast regarding driven personalities and how I relate. What a beautiful, powerful song!! And yes – this is perfect for belting out as an anthem of praise!! I wonder if I might be able to use this for our church? I’m a musician/worship leader and this would be a fantastic song to close a service with – and open the week with!

I wonder what slightly slowing down the tempo might do? The rich and dynamic lyrics seem to beg for the time to chew on them a little more. Just a thought- not a criticism.

Thank you for sharing your love for God so openly!
