– Enlightening Hunting Experience I Had With My Family Last Week

Growing up in a metropolitan area, I never had much exposure to hunting or the outdoors. Over the past few years, and with the help of various friends and mentors, I have developed a deep admiration for the tradition of hunting—and meat prep, cookery, wayfinding, tracking, and all the other skills that come along with it. This is the reason why I decided to take my family on a 4-day experience in Kettle Falls, Washington with the Human Nature Hunting School.

The course we took in this case is called “Awaken the Hunter.” It is NOT a guided hunt or the pursuit of trophies; this is a more holistic approach to learning the entire process from planning and prep to stalking and hunting to field dressing and butchering. The underlying purpose is to heal the connection between humans and nature by experiencing the essence of the hunt, which requires time in the field and thinking like a wild animal. This process is a slow, thoughtful immersion to establish the strongest bonds possible to the land and our ecosystem, at which point hunting becomes more an act of giving and receiving than of conquering and taking.

Through our hunting journey, my family and I were enlightened by the expertise of our guides who enhanced my belief of the deep spiritual connection between man and nature.  In our society, we are so distanced from the sources of the food we consume. It’s important to understand the implications that are associated with taking the life of another animal, and it is paramount that I honor any animal I would take the life of. I also believe that engaging in these ancestral types of activities enables future generations to understand their place in this ever-advancing world.

Whether you have children, plan on having children, or know children, the wonderful fact is that you live in a privileged era in which you have the ability to enable the kids in your life to be tiny superhumans who look,⁣feel and perform like optimized human machines. ⁣ ⁣ In our modern era, we’ve just forgotten how to nurture and grow an amazing⁣ human body and mind. Here are my top 10 tips for growing tiny superhumans: ⁣ ⁣ 1. Let them get dirty- a child’s immune system gets stronger when it’s exposed to dirt, germs, bacteria, and viruses. ⁣ 2. Let them eat fat- You know how walnuts are shaped like little brains? Those are also really good for your child’s brain. My kids have a big handful of raw walnuts every morning-right before they eat eggs scrambled in bacon fat.⁣ ⁣ 3. Let them fight- Roughhousing and fighting is so, so important for your kids. It teaches them how to adapt quickly to unpredictable situations. It teaches them how to deal with pain and discomfort. 4. Let them stand- The widespread lack of physical activity is why you should let your kids stand. A lot. ⁣ ⁣ 5. Let their feet free- The shape and density of your kid's bones is a direct result of the loads and geometry placed on their body. So this means that the way your child’s foot is loaded will affect the lifelong shape of their pelvis,hips, knees, and back. ⁣ 6. Let them play- kids who don’t make their own decisions, and follow an internal moral compass grow up feeling less in control of their own lives and fate.⁣ ⁣ 7. Let them join- I go out of my way to include our kids in my workouts as much as possible.⁣ ⁣ 8. Let them unplug- Kids absorb far more EMF than adults. ⁣ 9. Let them sleep- Sadly, a child sleeps an average of an hour less a night than they did thirty years ago. ⁣ 10.
