New Discoveries Of The Week: Cool New Things I'm Trying, Books I'm Reading, And More!
How To Train Your Breath “On Steroids” During A Walk
In my book Boundless, I describe several different variations of breath-hold and breathwork training that can be performed during a walk, often in a way that not only increases carbon dioxide tolerance (a potent tactic for longevity enhancement and blood/tissue oxygenation) but also nearly places you into something like a deep meditative state during your walk. Combined with the cerebrospinal fluid, movement of the rotation that occurs while walking, along with the lymph flow, fresh air, nitric oxide from nasal breathing (which you should be doing!), and many other benefits of a simple stroll, there's a veritable host of reasons that walking is a staple in my daily protocol.
Recently, I've been combining two cool “tools” to enhance all of the above during my walk 1) a Relaxator, developed by my previous podcast guest Anders Olsson, a device that trains your inspiratory/expiratory muscles while simultaneously teaching you to nasal breath; 2) a “Breath Belt” that “massages” and softens the psoas and hip flexors muscles while simultaneously training you to breathe diaphragmatically and activate your glutes.
The protocol is quite simple: Strap on the Breath Belt as tight as comfortably possible, put the Relaxator in your mouth, and head out on your walk engaged in nasal breathing for the entire walk. Try it for your next walk (I suggest 20-45 minutes of brisk strolling) and you'll notice a huge difference both physiologically and biochemically.

::: Discover A Whole New You! :::
Do you remember the last runner’s high or exercise endorphin release you had from that killer workout? Have you ever thought, I wish that feeling could last?
Well, I have news for you. A much deeper and richer satisfaction is readily available at your fingertips.
As an author, speaker, and consultant in the realms of health, fitness, nutrition, and body and brain optimization, I have come to understand a glaring reality:
The relatively self-obsessed or carnal pursuits of a lower body fat percentage, finding the perfect diet, crushing the next Spartan race, or “reversing the aging process, are all ultimately unfulfilling, and can often leave one standing at the top of the mountain of physical and mental achievement, yet in a valley feeling empty emotionally, relationally, and spiritually.
This is why I designed the Spiritual Disciplines Journal.
In the same way your mental and physical muscles must be repeatedly challenged and stressed to gain intelligence and brawn, so must your spiritual muscles be consistently trained to produce growth, expansion, enlightenment, and most importantly, sustain the spirit behind them.
My brand new Spiritual Disciplines Journal will give you the structure, direction, and discipline your spirit needs to flourish so that your entire existence becomes more meaningful and more purposeful
