Meet the guys from Kegenix: Rob Rogers and Gary Millet. These fellas are true experts in ketosis and ketones, and we take a deep dive into ketosis (and how to get into ketosis in under 60 minutes) on today's show.

Rob graduated from the University of San Diego and played professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians. After finishing his baseball career he has been a serial entrepreneur. As an athlete he has always been focused on health, nutrition, exercise and biohacking – what you can do to make yourself better. His wanting to know what is the newest and the best led him to meet with Dominic D’Agostino to learn about ketosis and ketones. After many discussions with Dom, Rob and his partner Gary Millet licensed the worldwide rights to Dom’s technology and are now fully immersed and committed to ketones, specifically exogenous ketones.

In addition to being co-founder of Kegenix, Gary Millet headed up the development and commercialized the Kegenix product, utilizing the unique patented technology of Dr. Dominic D’Agostino, licensed world-wide from the University of South Florida. Mr. Millet is responsible for springboarding the popularity of the ketone supplementation movement and is one of the key authorities on Keto Eating, Ketone Supplementation, Keto Protocols and Keto Coaching. Mr. Millet is also involved in strategic marketing, and the inventor of the Quad BHB Salts pending patent.

    Hey Ben,

Quick question, How efficient is the transition into and sustainability of ketosis with a vegan diet?
Have you come across any credible research on this topic?

On another note, you may be rather interested in taking a look at some of the results I have been getting in my practice with a new tool for treating persistent post-concussion syndrome.

  2. Andre says:

Hi Ben, they talked about Ketones being the preferred source of fuel (over glucose). Do you know of the literature they were referring to?

    Thanks

    1. From Gary: "We were all taught that glucose was the body’s preferred fuel, but that myth has recently been exploded. Here are just some of the reasons why ketones are preferred. They have 2.5x greater energy per gram than glucose, produces 10x less free radicals when processed, required a “pull” metabolic strategy to get the glucose into the cell via the carrier insulin where ketones utilize a “push” strategy requiring no carrier to get into the cell, a taken up by the brain and other essential organs in preference to glucose, and ketones once produced cannot be converted back into any other substrate, thus they are either used or lost, thus the body’s intention when it encounters ketones is to preferentially use them. Hope that makes sense and helps."

For the levl device – your discount code is 25% or 25$? I was interested in buying it at 25% off but idk about 25$.

  4. Declan says:

    Hey Ben,

You say you have Coffee and BHB Salts, What BHB have you been using in your coffee? How does it affect the taste?

  5. Nicky says:

So, Ben if you are racing, would you take per hour: 2 T Ketone Salts (including the MCT), 5 gEAA, 2 grams Taurine, Magnesium, Vespa, and Superstarch?

    1. Hi Nicky. Check out my article, How to Get into Ketosis, where I lay out my racing plan.

  6. Dave Fellows says:

I can’t seem to find the ingredients list for their products – can anyone point me to this? All I can find are some low resolution images of the packaging which I can’t make out…

    1. If you hover over each product image, it will magnify it so it's easily readable.

      1. Dave Fellows says:

Thanks. Can make them out now.

I suggest they have a separate ingredients listing in the product descriptions (if they’re reading this :)). Having to squint at blurry images (and tip my head sideways for the keto spray image) isn’t a phenomenal UX…

    2. Brian says:

It looks like a few things came up that were important. The protocol wasn’t there for considering high glucose levels before taking the product, the background knowledge wasn’t either as it seemed you needed to lead them often times , and the ingredients are also sub par.

Ben , i love your stuff , why not pull the rip cord if this product isn’t what you’d take yourself as a top product or I’d you know and recommend other, healthier products out there backed by more research?

I’m sure they have good intentions , but it looks like they are rushing into a hot product field and need to do more homework first. I’m sure they’ll succeed but some tweaks would be very helpful for your audience.

So I’d vote to not see a discount just bc you did the podcast. It’s be good to see some where you provide the insightful constructive feedback that some things can be improved.

Won’t get as many clicks i know but you have great credibility and it would only enhance it!

      Thanks

  7. Brent says:

they all sounded great .. but think there’s only one I can buy

because the use Sucralose .. and cyanocobalamin and folic acid

nope and nope sorry got to go the extra mile for this crowd

  8. John Crosby says:

Why cyanocobalamin and folic acid vs. methylcobalamin and folate in the Ketomeal? The science is consistent and replete with the deleterious problems from both cyanocobalamin and folic acid. This seems like an ill-considered, corner-cutting manufacturing choice vs. what’s best for customer.

Also, why not use a non-denatured (and pastured) whey vs. isolate? You can match protein levels without damaging critical beneficial whey properties such as lactoferrin, immunoglobulins, glycomacropeptide, and other health promoting compounds. Isolate manufacturing destroys these.

    Thanks.

    1. Dave Fellows says:

Agree this seems odd (re cyanocobalamin and folic acid). I find it strange and surprising when a company tries to develop a new leading product in a particular genre but then make simple mistakes like this that suggest there isn’t a lot of science or foundational expertise behind the development of the formulations. The issues with cyanocobalamin and folic acid are very well known and there’s no reason to use them when there are far superior alternatives.

    2. Dave Fellows says:

I also note the Keto Spray has not one, but *three* nasty preservatives, WTF?!?

Here’s just a small sample from 5 minutes googling.

      Potassium Sorbate:

“However, two studies have shown that potassium sorbate has the potential to mess with our DNA. In one study, PS is clearly seen to be genotoxic to the human peripheral blood lymphocytes (white blood cells). In another study, potassium sorbate mixed with ascorbic acid (vitamin C, which is present in many foods), caused mutagenicity and DNA-damaging activity. the risk demonstrated in the studies is very low, but it is statistically significant.”
https://www.fooducate.com/app#!page=post&id=5… (includes links to the studies mentioned above)

      Sodium Benzoate:

“Another consideration is a possible link between sodium benzoate and ADHD (attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder). The Mayo Clinic notes that the preservative (as well as several food dyes) may enhance or trigger hyperactivity in children.

In a laboratory study, scientists evaluated the genotoxic impact of sodium benzoate in cultured human cells. They found that the chemical significantly increased damage to DNA (which triggers cell mutation and cancer) when it was added to the cells in various concentrations.”

      Sodium Hexametaphosphate:

“This chemical is thought to put you at greater risk of pancreatic cancer. It has other side effects, as well.”
      https://www.wowremedies.com/is-sodium-hexametapho…

What are these guys doing? How can you develop “health” products and not do your basic homework, I just don’t understand. I’m sorry folks, products like these lose all credibility and deserve no place on the market. The industry is already littered with way too many pseudo-health products with nasty ingredients which most laymen don’t understand the dangers of. The health industry needs to take more responsibility so I’m really disappointed with these guys.

      1. Brian Potter says:

Couldn’t agree more. The Keto Spray product is especially troublesome, I would not ingest those toxins into my body, it’s definitely not a clean product.

  9. Brian says:

I was excited about the keto meal substitute, until I noticed it is made with sunflower oil. I see Ample now has a keto version. The ingredients look really good. Do you have any experience with it?

  10. Chris says:

Great Podcast Ben, as usual! Wondering when the best time would be to integrate the Kegenix Prime supplement into an intermittent fasting diet. If my normal eating window is between 2pm and 6pm…I’m wondering if taking Prime at 2pm will keep me up at night (I can’t have caffeine after 2pm or I never sleep). Would it be best to shift my eating window forward (8am-12pm) and take this in the morning as I’m breaking my fast? Would love to have the benefits of this energy during my day at school/work.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you!

  11. steven says:

Oh cool, I should check this out, apparently they have phenomenal reviews on amazon because that’s what the guys said in the podcast….. **checks out amazon** oookey, everyone is complaining that the old formula was far better than the new formula that’s in the tub, you seemingly get 1/3 of what you got originally for the same price. The pouches provided 15 servings while the tub also contains 15 servings but people claim there is realistically 5 servings if you actually what the get into ketosis, so it’s $50 for 5 days.
