Listener Q&A [00:26:39]

As compiled, deciphered, edited and sometimes read by Brock Armstrong, the Podcast Sidekick.

The Best Biohacks For Joint Health [00:26:48]

Kelly says:  My question is, how do I take care of my joints moving forward (I am 52). What do you recommend for exercise, diet, and supplements? I am particularly interested in diet and whether food sensitivities and allergies play a role in osteoarthritis. And if they do, how do I test for that? I have had both hips replaced and I am a former competitive tennis player and a long time athlete. I also found out from DNAFit that I have the genetic marker for osteoarthritis.

How To Increase Your Body Symmetry [00:37:53]

Trent says: The muscles on my left side of my body are bigger and more defined than on my right side. This is true all over my body – my back, chest, arms, legs, shoulders and even my abs. Is this some sort of hormonal issue or maybe something else I am doing? I work out regularly (3 times per week) resistance training + HIIT twice a week, and yoga once per week.

In my response, I recommend:
Body dysmorphic disorder

The Best Way To Warm-Up & Cool-Down [00:47:28]

Conor says: What are the best warm-ups and cool-downs? Do they differ depending on what workout you are doing (cardio, muscular endurance or strength)? I would like to know how best to prime my body before a workout and how to cool down and recovery after.

How To Heal Nerve Damage [00:58:57]

Brian says: In all your research have you found anything that can heal nerves? I have an acute spinal injury and severe nerve damage in my spine. I use CBD daily, I adhere to a raw and whole food diet, and workout every day.

Ben, on the topic of nerve damage: Dr. Neil Riordan of the Riordan-McKenna institute (rmiclinic.com and cellmedicine.com) is an expert on Mesenchymal stem cell therapy. He has found success treating a plethora of medical issues with MSC’s, most notably for this particular issue, in the case of a man who was wheelchair-bound from a spinal cord injury after a plane crash and who is now walking after treatment. Joe Rogan has a great intro to the topic with Dr. Riordan on episode #1066 of his podcast. Just thought it might be relevant and could help Brian out with his nerve issues.

Ben, really fantastic episode! I’ve been dealing with nearly debilitating nerve pain for the past 4 weeks or so..curious to learn more about an iodine deficiency. I have also had symptoms of an iodine deficiency although I do tend to eat a lot of seaweed in my diet.

My question for you is what is the dosage recommended for the Lugol’s iodine you mentioned.. I have seen many different recommendations online but I am specifically looking for dosage info regarding deficiency related/causing the nerve pain…thank you in advance!

    1. I am not a doctor and this is not to be taken, interpreted or construed as medical advice. Please talk with a licensed medical professional about this. Around 25mg though, and here's everything you need to know: http://jeffreydachmd.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/… These are just my own personal thoughts and not a prescription or a diagnosis or any form of health care whatsoever.

I sure do enjoy learning all that you take the time to send us Ben. I am a 54 year old male, a Texas High School Coach and teacher who has no money because I’m gladly paying for my daughter to go to college. I can’t afford the supplements you recommend but I do as many of the cheap or free things that you promote. Cold showers, big healthy smoothies, lots of sardines, gratitude journals. I love to test my body, God created an incredible masterpiece. I do hurt most of the time from training and I do include a lot of tumeric in my smoothies. Any other suggestions you can give me for more energy and less soreness, (cheap) I would appreciate it. Thank you again for the weekly info, I really look forward to your posts.

I have a follow-up to your response on joint health. I also have issues with arthritis in my hip and neck. I was curious what your thoughts our on any of the following:

    – stem cell injections

    – local infrared device

    – cryo therapy

    – myo buddy

I’m following an anti inflammatory diet and follow similar supplementation to what you recommend. I’m 43 and hoping to avoid hip or neck surgery in my 50s / 60s, and wonder what other techniques (like above) may help.

    1. Matt Farrall says:

Brendon, I’m copying and pasting the below from my comment on the nerve damage question from this episode. As an addendum, Mezenchymal stem cell therapy has been shown to greatly help orthopedic health and repairing damage. It’s also the only MSC therapy approved for use in the US currently. Highly recommend researching. See below:
