Exercising In The Heat vs. Sauna Training

Whole Doods: Ben talks a lot about Cold Thermogenesis and using saunas for fitness and health but what about just exercising in a hot location. He lives in Sierra Leone and when he works out, it is like he is always in a sauna and his heart rate is just jacked immediately and he sweats like a pig. Is he getting any added benefit by combining his hot environment with working out?

She does have a lot of pain and distraction works well for her but is looking for some of your secrets.

Using Skulpt To Measure Body Fat

Sol: He's been hearing a lot about this new $200 body fat composition gadget called Skulpt and is wondering if it is really as good as their marketing material states? It uses electrical impedance which is in those cheaper devices but apparently they do it better. What do you think?

    Hi Ben.
    I just listened to this podcast today, I have actually been using the Skulpt AIM with my clients for ~ 6months now. I've had some pretty good results with it (I even tested it against a DEXA scan and the numbers were pretty close).     Funny you talked about Pranayama. I find the walking part of Vipassana meditation really helpful with increasing endurance, and in general making what would be painful much more enjoyable. There are not really studies to support this per se but it was mentioned in the Buddhist canon for 2,500 years and I experienced it myself. It totally increased motivation.

    Oh and re:math. I was the opposite with Ben. I did fab with high school math and in college, I banged my head against the wall just because the teaching style was very different. I don't have a slacker personality for sure, as evidenced by how I still decided to get a math minor with a C average, while staying up writing proofs until 4 AM. If I could get a 4.0 GPA in math, my trajectory would've been very different, though.

    We grow our own pasture fed beef and lamb and are used to the way it tastes and feels in my mouth. When visiting the US, I find that grain fed steak tastes like baby food. Disgusting.

    Actually, one would have to import grain fed beef to eat it here (NZ). I’d reckon there are some wealthy yanks here that do.
