Listener Q&A [00:35:31]

As compiled, deciphered, edited and sometimes read by Brock Armstrong, the Podcast Sidekick.

How Skinny Guys Can Get Big Muscles [00:35:40]

Alex says: I have been going to the gym with the goal of gaining muscle mass in my chest and shoulders but I am not seeing the gains I want. I have been watching protein and targeting my workouts. I am an ectomorph body type so is it pointless or do I just need to tweak a few things?

Is GHB Safe? [00:56:40]

Anonymous says: What are your thoughts on taking GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) as an alternative to alcohol?

In my response, I recommend:
NOW Foods GABA
Passionflower extract

What To Do After High School [01:04:51]

Eli says: It was good to see you in Toronto. I am 17-years old and finishing high school this year. My question is: if you could redo your journey from high school to now, what would you do differently? And what would you recommend for someone like me who is passionate about health and nutrition?

In my response, I recommend:
KionU
-List of holistic nutrition programs
-Chek certification – gives free access to lesson 1
-Book: College Disrupted by Ryan Craig
-Book: A New U: Faster + Cheaper Alternatives to College

    Hi Ben,

In the past I’ve heard you mention Masszymes by biOptimizers as being a good option for muscle gain, yet you mentioned the Thorne Bio-Gest here. Any meaningful differences between the two?

  2. Nate Manfred says:

Is there any Colleges that are accredited that give holistic Nutrition degrees? Love the Podcast! I’m addicted to the point its annoying my wife! Keep up the good work!

  3. Brynda says:

    Hi Ben,
Great podcast! Is the 250 minutes of exercise a target for the average Joe? I am assuming that it includes lifting weights as long as breaks longer than 1 minute will count toward the 250 minutes? If you can’t get in 250 minutes/week what do you believe is a is a sufficient amount of exercise in minutes?

  4. Dale Myers says:

I got the GOODIES for the review. Thank you guys soo much.
Yes, its Healthnut10@yahoo for my email. Sorry for the typo on the review.
I am adding one thing a day to better my health along with changing my vision
on where I want to go with my new business and venture. Thanks guys.
Ben you are such an inspiration. I look forward to meeting you at an event within
the next year. Blessings and Happy Holidays to both of you. P.S. You rock too Brock.

  5. Bill Montgomery says:

    Ben,

Regarding the 300 minutes of exercise divided by 6 days is 50 minutes. Does that mean 50 minutes of cardio or say an hour of weights and 30 minutes of cardio would be equal to about the same thing?

    Thanks,

  6. Jim D says:

Can you get your IT web guys to put on a volume control “Widget” on the silly audio recording player? It’s a total pain in the ass to have to go to my my Windows OS volume control settings to adjust volume up or down and change the base settings for all my other apps I run on the PC. No one else in the online content community prevents users from adjusting volume except control-freaks in marketing companies that do not permit anyone to control the playback location or have any control over the volume settings during their product sales spiels.

  7. Hayden says:

    Hey Ben,

KionU interests me, I heard the mentioned prerequisites so I was wondering if there was an assessment to see if it’d be a potential fit.

    1. I would submit your email here: https://getkion.com/become-a-kion-coach and someone will be in touch when the next class opens.

  8. Dan says:

Dear Ben, thank you so much for the great content. You have been a great motivation for me in the last one year and half!

I’m 38 yrs old (ectomorph body type), 5.9 ft/ 62 kg, and I’ve always been very active. I’m a kite surfer I do lots of kiting all the summer and I’m a snowboarder and do lot’s of snowboarding during all the winter. I’m also training Capoeira and Yoga and I’m running some times in the morning, and when it’s very cold I just do some HIIT rounds instead.

I’m obsessed with nature, mountain hiking, cold showers and I’m diving deep in to nutrition and healthy lifestyle.

I do intermittent fasting (16/8), and some weeks I do a day with 36 or 40 hrs of fasting. Some times I do cyclic keto.

I started going to the gym since couple of months and I really need to build some muscle overall (and specially on my legs).

I need more muscle in order to improve my performance in the other sports (kiting, snowboarding and capoeira all require strong legs and mine are a bit skinny).

So I what to ask you do you think GHB+Creatine (I’m supplementing 5gr/day of creature since 4 months) + some protein or collagen powders might help me gain some muscle? Will it be more efficient if I add essential aminos as well?

Generally my question is if there is a solution (a kind of a hack) for people that want to eat healthy and still gain muscle?

    1. I have tons of additional resources on BenGreenfieldFitness.com for building muscle you can easily search. If you need a more direct, customized answer, you can always book a consult at https://BenGreenfieldFitness.com/coaching

  9. John Mills says:

    Hi Ben,

The “Exploding Bulb” happened to me twice doing the same thing in my Finnish Sauna using a “Sauna Space” type setup. The issue wasn’t the heat. I can achieve a temperature between 185 and 195 degrees F. The issue is water. One drop is all it takes. A drop of sweat accidentally flung thru the air my your hand for instance is all it takes. I now am very careful. :)

    1. jim david says:

Seems like a good reason to look elsewhere for a sauna. I built one like sunspace until I can afford a Clearlight or Sun Stream (Low EMF) sauna. I like the bulbs because it was cheap to build (about $225). That is scary as “sweat” is so common in the sauna.

  10. Ant says:

Excellent information. But your sidekick always de-rails you and his attempted humour is terrible. Go solo.

    1. Daniel says:

Enough insolence. Brok is funny, possibly funnier than Ben. Apparently his dry Canadian wit goes over your head. Keep bringing him on the Q & A.

  11. Michael Mosteller says:

Can you talk more about your injectable NAD dosage, frequenc, and when you will doing it in terms of work outs? I’ve been experimenting with sub c NAD pre work out but thinking maybe after is better. Thank you

  12. William says:

The link to ATP just goes to amazon, where would you find ATP as a supplement, rare as rocking horse poo isn’t it really?

  13. Dale says:

    Ben,

What about Passion Flower and CBD together? Any bad effects?

    1. Haven't tried it, but sounds like a good calming stack.

  14. Lora Deaton says:

Can you give an exact recipe with amounts of each ingredient for your anti-aging smoothie? On your Amazon list, it just says, “My general approach is to take a heaping teaspoon to tablespoon of most of the ingredients, blend it all with ice and bone broth to desired texture, top with a superfood like goji berries, dried blueberries, cacao nibs, spirulina, etc.” For us detail oriented people, can you be more specific?

    Thanks, love your show!!

    1. Read the description! Just use the serving size listed on label for each product.
