Can You Get Vitamin D From Mushrooms?…30:20

Andrea asks: What is the connection between drinking mushroom coffee and vitamin D levels? Even pre-COVID, I've always monitored my vitamin D levels. They are consistently in the sixties, just retested and levels went up to 78, just below the optimal recommendation level. In the winter with the possibility of the connection between vitamin D and COVID, I began slightly increasing my oral vitamin D, but by no more than 2000 units a day. The only other dietary difference is the addition of Four Sigmatic Lion's Mane Chaga coffee, which I discovered via your podcast. As you well know, mushrooms are a great source of vitamin D. Do you think one cup of Four Sigmatic coffee a day couldn't have increased my vitamin D levels? Ariane from Bonn, Germany asks: I've heard omega 6 fatty acids like linoleic acid and arachidonic acid are essential fatty acids, so the body needs us to consume them so that we can do things like manage inflammation properly, but it seems like everyone is saying not to go near omega 6 fatty acids with a ten-foot pole. So which is it? Should I totally avoid them, or try to get “just enough”? If so, how much is enough?

    Love this conversation! Unfortunately, we do not currently measure the amount of Vitamin D in our final products so we just can’t say for sure if the coffee was a contributing factor. However, we are looking into starting to test based on customer feedback like this!

    1. Carlson's is a good option last time I checked, but obviously I'm a much bigger fan of Kion Omega :)

    Hey guys, I’ve been mixing 1 teaspoon of matcha green tea in my first espresso Americano coffee of my day for two or more years now. I also struggled with drinking each separately before noon. Just mix them together with a half teaspoon of cinnamon or honey and bam! The best morning kick starter out there .

    Ben, either you misspoke on the podcast, or your website description of Kion Omega is wrong. You said one capsule contains a1,000 mg omega-3, but the label says two capsules contain 1,000 mg omega-3. Which statement is correct?

    1. The label is correct. Two capsules, which is one serving (probably what I meant to say) contains 1,000 mg total omega-3s.

      Oleic acid: 70.0%
      Palmitoleic acid: 0.3–3.5%
      Polyunsaturated
      Linoleic acid: 15.0%
      α-Linolenic acid: 0.5%

    I bought 4-sigmatic mushroom shake mix and my daughter noticed a small warning on the back of the package saying that the ingredients contained chemicals that are known to cause cancer and/or birth defects.

    I threw it all away. It was costly. What ingredients are to blame??

      I think the whole ‘compound-x is known in the state of Cali to cause cancer’ warning tag is intentionally over-used & placed on just about every compound to create confusion & dilute attention away from the ones that actually DO cause cancer.

    Ben, any difference between oral & injectable Pinealon?

      Great point, interested in this also. Typically oral meds have disadvantages like being hard on the liver or some enzyme &/or diet interaction reducing effectiveness. You can get both online but its probably prescription only in most places, so risk being seized during transit.

    I understand the cognitive enhancement and emotional based enhancement from the micro dosing program. Have you noticed a enhancement in your workouts as well because for me it is exponentially however is only one piece of the stacks that I have been utilizing to attain optimization. Thoughts?

    I tend to agree with Jon Barron’s assessment of fluoride in ‘Lessons from Miracle Doctors’ Chapter 11. It makes bones denser but also more brittle & thus increase risk of fracture.

      Why wouldnt you want denser bones? How can that be a bad thing.

        A glass rod is heavier than a rubbery-plastic rod of the same volume – i.e. it is denser. Drop the glass rod & it shatters, drop the rubbery-plastic rod & its fine – & can flex a bit too! That’s the analogy. Fluoride pushers just focused on the simplest idea for the masses. The added density came with a side-effect they never mentioned.
