- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2021I’ve been using this strap extensively with Suunto 9 Baro. First, the heart rate strap dramatically lengthens Suunto watch battery life, as Suunto automatically shuts off the watch HR sensor during exercise.
Second, the HRM is far more accurate and reliable than the wrist HRM.
Third, I have found the heart rate readings to be extremely accurate and reliable. As a 66 year old guy who likes very hard workouts, the HRM is my ‘bible’ keeping me in the right HR band during my activities.
Finally, my Garmin HR monitor strap has been unreliable from day 1. Not the Suunto.

the battery lasts a long time on this unit. I put my device down for a year. I put it on a few days ago and the battery had 40% capacity. I thought was pretty good. I wasn't able to pair my smart-sensor with the new Suunto App, but my iphone health app recognizes the device and accepts its data.
The app does drop the sensor at night, when I am sleeping. So, I decided to buy the Suunto 3 fitness, that has the HR built into the watch and does 24/7 tracking. The watch gives me interpreted data on my sleeping and provides more value than I was trying to get from using the smart-sensor while I slept.
I bought the smart-sensor for $55-ish in 2016. I think I got a great deal and a great product. But, I am enjoying the Suunto 3 fitness more.
-----------------
I really wanted this to work. I’ve had for over a year and it just doesn’t.
It decides when it wants to work. I’m really disappointed. Such a waste of money.
update---
I got it to work with a third party app on my iphone
another update----
i upgraded to four stars. the moves count app is total crap on my iphone. but, using it with another app, it works perfectly every time. the battery life is pretty good to. i stored it for six months and the battery icon in the app and in the bluetooth settings indicated it was at 100%.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2015Love it so far!!! Very small compared to other similar chest straps. I have previously purchased a Mio Fuse to get rid of the chest strap as they are mostly an annoyance, however I this strap doesn't seem to bother me. The actual sensor is about the same size diameter as a quarter and maybe thickness of 2-3 quarters strapped on top of each other. I'll still probably go back and forth between this and the Mio Fuse, but this is a chest strap I definitely dont mind wearing. Also of note it pairs perfectly with Runtastic on my iPhone 6 plus, and connects flawlessly to my Suunto Ambit3 as it should.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2020This one new replacement after weeks and weeks of almost daily use mainly on 90’ Hot Yoga( can’t sweat more) stink too much of some sort of plastic/petroleum, even if I wash it after every session very well. I tried everything not even vinagre could get rid of bad smell. The old one original with the Watch never smelled bad after three years of heavy use !!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2019This is the second sensor I've purchased in less than a year. When you first get it, it sets up perfectly well, all is great tracking heart rate and all at the gym, but magically it'll stop working. I usually get home from the gym and wash the strap right away and let it air dry and that was working fine, but ONE TIME I let it dry overnight with the sensor attached and now it's giving me trouble and refuses to connect. The watch says the sensor is paired, but when I start an exercise routine, it will not register the heart rate.
I tried cleaning the sensors, thinking maybe it was causing the problem and changing the battery several times, even going out to get a fresh battery thinking maybe I had left mine for too long, and nothing. Upon closer inspection, there was a rust colored crust around the Right metal screw that snaps into the strap and when I looked at the old sensor it had the same issue on the same side.
When I first had problems, I tried replacing the strap first, but then had to purchase the sensor and strap combo, so I now have 3 straps and have tried any combination of the sensors among the straps and nothing.
I'm FRUSTRATED!! I can't get a years worth of use out of the SMART Sensor and shouldn't need to spend $60 every 8 months instead of $3 to change a battery. And if you go to the Suunto website, they have a software update that can only be completed when you pair the sensor through the Movescount app but it refuses to connect so essentially this is another dud.
I'm going back to POLAR!!! I can't understand how someone that goes to the gym and occasional hiking can wear this thing down so quickly when real athletes are supposed to be using this on a regular basis without issues.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2017This HR belt works great with my Suunto Ambit 3 and also Bluetooth’s with my phone when I’m using TrainerRoad. Works as described. I’ve only had one issue where the battery chamber needed one of the metal pieces moved for better contact. No issues sense. I take the sensor off and wash the belt with laundry to keep the stink down! Wore it recently at a half Ironman through all 3 legs. No chaffing or discomfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended to pair with a watch, not the app.
I wouldn't recommend buying this if you're looking to simply connect it to the Movescount mobile app. The app is notorious for not being able to maintain its connections.
That out of the way, this belt is an excellent companion to any Suunto watch that is compatible with it. I have a Suunto Traverse and this belt was the only one that was compatible so I had little choice. I was a bit worried because of the previous reviews, not just here, but everywhere, with such a low rating. But happily, the belt works great with the Traverse. It's very accurate and hasn't lost connectivity yet. I use it about 10 hours/week and I have no complaints.

2.0 out of 5 stars I returned the USED product because of inaccurate heart rate measures
I bought the USED version provided by Amazon, sadly I returned the USED product because of inaccurate heart rate measures. Sometimes work and sometimes doesnt work, very cumbersome process to get my HR readings in the watch. Especially for running was difficult to get a decent HR measure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funciona perfecto
