My guest today is Dr. Stephen Cabral, a Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor, founder of the Cabral Wellness Institute and author of the new book “The Rain Barrel Effect: How a 6,000 Year Old Secret Holds the Answer to Getting Well, Losing Weight, and Feeling Alive Again!”

At 17 years old, Stephen Cabral was diagnosed with a life-altering illness and given no hope for recovery. For many years, he suffered endlessly, day after day after day. It was only after Stephen traveled all over the world and discovered how to combine ancient Ayurvedic healing practices with state-of-the-art Naturopathic & Functional Medicine did he understand how to fully rebalance the body and re-energize it with life.

Dr. Cabral and his team have completed over 250,000 client appointments in their online and in-person practice in Boston, MA. He uses Functional Medicine lab testing and Personalized Wellness Plans to help people rebalance their mind and body to recover from auto-immune, thyroid, fatigue, hormone, weight gain, digestive, childhood, mood, skin, and dozens of other hard to treat health conditions.

Within The Rain Barrel Effect, it turns out the answer is simpler than we think and it lies in the oldest form of medicine in the world.

  1. Juan says:

Hey Ben thanks a lot for your work. Interestingly enough, there are very similar practices in amazonian traditional practices, taking plants for vomiting, for cleansing colon, for cleansing mucus and much more. Also, in a couple of places I visited in Norway and Lithuania where sauna practice is ancient, they have wool hats to be in the sauna and not get the head hot (and they work).

Question: have either of you found a connection between heat treatments and body type? I personally do super well with saunas, sweat lodge, temazcal and other heat treatments but my partner is from Central America (very hot weather) and it doesn’t seat well with her. I am aware ayurveda is from Kerala where is hot but I got curious. Thoughts?

  2. Kezia says:

    Hey Ben,

Can you post the link to the two research studies mentioned in the podcast? I want to read about the Finnish Sauna study!

  3. Mike Sage says:

I thought there was a book mentinoed called Ayurvedic Therapies and Ayurvedic Healing – maybe two different books? Didn’t see on notes or find elsewhere as one book, did find:

Scientific Basis for Ayurvedic Therapies – Mishra

    and

    Ayurvedic Healing – Frawley

    Are these the books? Thanks!

    1. Scientific Basis for Ayurvedic Therapies is in the shownotes.

  4. Sanjula says:

Dear Ben, like you, I do not want to put really clean water into a plastic bucket for enemas. After searching I found a stainless steel enema bucket, but it still has a silicon tube. BPA free, is a joke as there are tons of other plastic components (even more toxic than BPA in every plastic item. I could not find one with a stainless steel hose. Did you? If yes please let me know the company or product name.

Or what tube do you use for yourself?

    thank you

    1. Sanjula says:

overlooked the link to the enema kit you supplied. Yeah that’s similar to the one I found here in Germany.

    2. This is what I use: https://amzn.to/2LDIGNZ I'm not sure how a stainless steel hose would work.

  5. TOM MAYES says:

    Ben
Lymph a critical system to address,
and I’m always looking for the most effective modaliry.
Osteopathic lymph mobilization virus a spleen as a driver is miles ahead in efficacay than other techniqus.
Lymph stagnation will back up the gut as a significant amount of nutrients and toxins go to celiac nodes before blood

  6. Lillian Rowlatt says:

Is jumping rope as effective as the trampoline for lymph drainage? Thanks!

    1. Yes…Personally I do jumping jacks, but jumping rope would work as well.

      1. Lillian Rowlatt says:

        Awesome! Thanks Ben!
